Problem with Firefox
February 9, 2009 | vanity

Posted on 02/09/2010 1:05:19 PM PST by ProudFossil

I recently switched from IE6 to Firefox and now have a glitch which is rather annoying. I enter a reply message on a thread and click preview. I then get an error message stating FireFox could not find the link I was connecting to (there is no link in the message) or I was not logged on. I back arrow to the screen with the message entry and click preview again. This time it works and I am able to post the message.

Any suggestions or hints on how to correct this problem will be greatly appreciated.

Mike

Do you use any other message boards? Does it happen there?

Using firefox and not having that problem. Have you checked cookies settings on the tools-options-privacy pulldown?

I’ve used Firefox for years and haven’t run into that. It may well be that you have a problem installation. I’d uninstall Firefox, reboot, then reinstall it again.

The best way, however, to uninstall a program, is to download and install the free Revo Uninstaller application. Just do a Google search. Using that, and selecting the most comprehensive uninstall method (the 4th of the 4 options on the options screen), you’ll insure all registry entries and references are removed, giving you a clean uninstall. Just follow the steps.

I use a lot of other boards with different software basis. No problem with any of them, only FR. Now that does not mean it is only FR because I also use several forums where I may post something only three or four times a year. But with all the "active" ones, no problem except FR.

Thanks for the reply

Mike

ps. interestingly this reply went through with no problem.

I just checked and cookies are allowed and 3rd party cookies are allowed.

Thanks for the tip.

Mike

ps.

Now here is where it gets interesting. I previewed this reply with no problem and so I decided to add a line stating the preview worked. So I went to the message entry box and entered that statement and clicked preview again. Guess what? I got the following message:

The link you followed was invalid. We don't have enough information to complete your request.

I had a problem with the previous version of firefox. Not your specific issue, but it wouldn’t work with my gmail and I could not get my WOT add on to work. It just stopped one day. So I updated the version Sunday and viola. It all works now. And yea, IE 8 is better than 7 which is better than 6, so you were a couple versions behind on IE.

Try typing in Russian. I’m using Firefox right now, typing in Russian and look, no issues! Da.

I did try going from IE6 to IE8. Horrible results. It was taking up to 90 seconds to open a web site rather than the 4 to 6 seconds I had under IE6. So I went back to IE6. But the problem there was I kept getting warnings from various forums and web sites that I used on a regular basis that either they were going to stop being accessible under IE6 or they were already in the process of disallowing IE6 very soon.

The wife uses FireFox on her computer and had no such problems, so I switched.

Thank you for the comment

Mike ps. This message failed the preview problem again.

Something has changed on FR just today. I am not sure what it is, but everytime I try to go BACK A PAGE, I get this message:

“To display this page, Firefox must send information that will repeat any action (such as a search or order confirmation) that was performed earlier.”

I used to get it occassionally, after making a post, but now I get it EVERY TIME.

I don’t know if that is related to what is afflicting you, but since I have not made any changes to my system, or FIREFOX lately, I must conclude that something has been ‘tweaked’ on FREE REPUBLIC.

You might send an email to the MODS or JIM ROBINSON to see.

You could try IE 7 first. IE 8 is really new and I am using it on my pc before giving it to everyone else at work.

There’s probably nothing wrong with Firefox. FR has been having problems for a while now.

Firefox is much more secure than IE. This could actually be involved with your problem. But I don’t know for sure.
