Woman smuggles meth into Elko (Nevada) jail

ELKO — An Elko woman was charged with level two trafficking Tuesday after almost 23 grams of methamphetamine was found concealed in her vagina.

Elko police Lt. Richard Genseal said an officer pulled over Betty Jean Freed, 38, at 11:45 p.m. Monday on the 400 block of Fifth Street for a traffic violation. During a consented search of her car, Genseal said officers saw Freed take a glass pipe that was sitting out and attempt to hide it. Freed was allowed to stay in her vehicle during the search because she is physically disabled.

At that point, Freed was arrested for drug paraphernalia. Other items were found in the car, including packaging materials and a digital scale. Genseal said $1,550 in cash was seized.

Freed was strip searched at the Elko County Jail because she has an extensive history of drug-related arrests. Genseal said the female deputy noticed what appeared to be a part of a plastic baggie, so the Elko Combined Narcotics Unit obtained a search warrant to take Freed to Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital and have the baggie removed in a medical environment.

Police said they recovered 22.9 grams (0.8 ounces) of methamphetamine from inside the baggie.

Freed was booked into the Elko County Jail at 8:41 a.m. Tuesday for trafficking a controlled substance, unlawful possession for sale, three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, introduction of contraband to a jail and a warrant for possession of a controlled substance. Her bail is $112,528.

Freed has a previous felony conviction for trafficking a controlled substance, for which she spent almost two years in prison starting in January 2004.

Just what would one do with one’s self, speeding your brains out in a jail cell?

Why in the world would anyone want to do meth in jail?

Downers, maybe. And pot, yes.

But, meth?

“I see reading comprehension isn’t your strong suit.’

well then humor poor stupid me and explain the thread title , “ Woman smuggles meth into jail.”
She got stopped and taken to jail where in the course of the regular search they notice plastic bag so where was the smuggle versus just having it on her.

Smuggle, Definition, “to bring, take, put, etc., surreptitiously: She smuggled the gun into the jail inside a cake.”

If this wasn’t an attempt to get the meth into jail secretly then she wasn’t smuggling.

maybe it makes you feel better to be snarky

I also didn’t get where the supposed smuggling-into-jail came in.
