Interview with Sarah Palin (Palin *NOT* for Amnesty)
Univision ^ | October 26, 2008 | Univision

Posted on 02/10/2010 6:51:19 PM PST by Engineer_Soldier

To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?
I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

You realize you are misrepresenting her answer, do you not?

For those of you who didn't click through to this section of the interview (which dates to October, 2008 when Palin was McCain's VP nominee, by the way), here is what Palin actually said:

Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 or 13 million undocumented immigrants?

"No, I do not. I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. They've got to follow the bar, and we have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides."

You, sir, should be ashamed of yourself. Cheap trick.

Amnesty no, a path to citizenship yes. Big difference.

Sounds like McCain's rhetoric.

I don’t have any quotes, I just know of interviews she did many months ago with different people, Rush, etc. There was an interview she did with someone, I forgot his name, where she went into detail about how she is against illegal immigration and that if they are here illegally they should be thrown out of the US, but I forgot the name of the guy

Palin’s pedestal is beginning to crumble.

Whoever is giving her advice is destroying her. A statement like this would get her booted from the Tea Party convention. American citizens and legal resident aliens have been shouldering the burden of paying for illegal line jumping invading leeches for far too long.

I’m not the one who is opposed to Hayworth being a senator.

My opinion on this is not etched in stone [other than being dead set for safe borders]. I’ve been supporting her all the way until the Arizona primary. Now my support for her is a little bit less.

I just ran a google. The top hits say she’s for amnesty. How does she correct that?

John McCain’s campaign likely told her to do the univision interview, seeing as she trusted them that they knew what they were doing. And if her position on amnesty was different than the Presidential candidates, then that would have caused big problems.

This interview was in October 2008 , when she was a vp candidate and had to support the presidential candidates position ,, that she stressed “LEGAL” and “Following the Rules” is important ,, she couldn’t have been any more against the McCain/Jorge Bush amnesty than that and remained on the ticket. You’ll have to do better than this to change my mind.

There should be a 4 year ban on all legal immigration. We cannot afford to put anyone else on medicaid and ss and welfare. NO IMMIGRANTS WHATSOEVER>

Taken directly from the link you provided with this story -

"Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 or 13 million undocumented immigrants?"

Palin: " No, I do not. I do not."

I don’t have any quotes

Then you shouldn't make claims about her position.

If Palin’s for amnesty, then I would never be able to vote for her to become POTUS.

Her support for McAmnesty should reveals all you need to know on this issue.

give me a break...so you support amnesty?....quit your blind following of her...she’s not a messiah.

The McCain endorsement is starting to make sense.

I don’t believe Jim Demint supports amnesty....here’s hoping he runs.

Yep. I read the whole interview. It was on a Spanish language station when she was playing second fiddle to McCain and was restrained from saying how she really felt. If an illegal Mexican wants to spend two years or more in Alaska working on a crab boat, welding oil pipeline or some of the other tough ways they have of earning a living up there, I'd be inclined to let them earn a path to citizenship as well.

Alaska's handful of illegals aren't the type who are causing problems. And they certainly aren't the type who are trying to recreate their third world hellholes on American territory at our expense.

While I don't approve of them coming here illegally, I do have the brains to recognize that a relative handful of the illegal alien population has the potential to make good American citizens. Apparently, so does Sarah.

OK she says she doesn’t support amnesty. She supports legal citizenship. She says we are not going to deport the 12 million.

First, we aren’t going to deport them. I have heard no one with the courage to suggest that, even Anne Coulter says let them stay in the shadows.

Second, if you think she could have said anything else to a Latin magazine, in the middle of the election, running with McCain, please.

Sara is no idiot. Do I have to remind you she spent half the campaign praising Hilary? Obviously as a political strategy.

Interview with Lars Larson on 12/3/09:

LARS: The amnesty proposal that was defeated in Congress — in your view, was that amnesty for illegals and would you back amnesty for a path to citizenship, as the current president calls it?

SARAH PALIN: No, I’m not for amnesty. Let’s ratchet this down quite simply to remember what we’re referring to. Illegal aliens are called “illegal” for a reason. We need to secure our borders and I am not for amnesty. And there are humane ways to deal with the 11-13 million illegal aliens who are in our country right now, but if they’re not going to follow the rules, they need to get out.

LARS: You heard the story that Governor Huckabee signed the clemency that allowed this cop killer to be out of prison… if you had the chance to talk to Huckabee about that decision that he made—that he now says, “I had no way to see the future”— what would you say?

SP: Well, it was a bad decision, but my heart goes out to Huckabee. I feel bad for him to be in this position, but I feel even worse for the families in this situation. I feel bad for Huckabee, but this was a horrible decision that he made.

LARS: Did you give any pardons or clemency as Governor of Alaska?

SP: No, and most Alaskans know me well enough that I don’t have a whole lot of mercy for the bad guys. I’m on the good guys' side. I’m all about redemption, recovery and reform and all that but I will always err on the side of punishing even stricter, even harder of the bad guys.

LARS: When I said you would be on the show today, somebody said, 'Is she in favor of offshore drilling?' ... You're in favor of getting America's oil out of the ground, where it's on the land or in the ocean, right?

SP: Oh, hell yeah. God created it underfoot for our use, to make out world better and safer and more prosperous. I just hate what we are doing when we are importing energy supplies from foreign regimes that hate America when we have those supplies here. Alaska has hundreds of trillions of cubic feet of natural gas, we have billions of barrels of oil on and off-shore. The environmentalists who won’t let us to do it and Congress and Obama that will not let us tap these domestic resources, these are immoral steps that they’re taking to not allow us to rely domestically on our own resources.

"I think they must have misquoted or transformed her words, because I find it hard to believe Palin would support amnesty, considering what other things she supports."

You do realize that there's video of her saying those very words, in context, at the link, right?

One of two things is possible, she was either lying then, or she's lying now.

Sorry, you are not going to get me to bite into this nonsense of a story.

Do you know what I love about us over them? It's because we can be objective and we are for the truth. But, people like you aren't that way. When you have an interview in which she, herself, puts in her own words what she believes, you close your eyes and lie to yourself. It's sad. Don't ever make the mistake of denying the truth when it's blatant; that takes any credibility you have and flushes it down the toilet.
