A meteorite has smashed into the ground in Mexico, leaving a 30 meter (100 feet) wide crater, reports said.
The meteorite impact was in the Ahuazotepec Municipality in Central Mexico between the cities of Puebla and Hidalgo.
The precise impact area of the meteorite was in a relatively unpopulated area and hit around 6.30pm local time, Mexican media said.
The Ahuazotepec, Mexico meteorite impact was so massive it broke windows in homes many kilometers from the epicenter and people reported buildings swaying and mass confusion. Other reports said the Mexico meteorite impact partially damaged a road and a bridge.
The Mexican military was called in to lock down the area where the apparent space rock slammed into the ground.
Initial fears where that the impact was a aircraft crashing to the ground, but that report was later dismissed.
The Central Mexico meteorite event was witnessed by countless people in the region of the impact, with people as far away as Mexico City saying they saw the burning object enter the atmosphere.
Pathfinder for 12/21/12?
Another chupacabra has landed.
Okay, I'll say it: How could they tell?
There seems to be a lot of stuff raining down on the earth over the past year. I’m wondering if we are in a cloud of debris that might contain something really big that we should be more concerned about. The “scientists” don’t seem to see these things until they have just brushed us by (not that we could do anything if we saw it ahead of time).
THIS is Iran’s “punch in the mouth to the West”!! They have given up on a nuclear weapon, and instead have developed a METEORITE weapon. This is said to counter-act the earthquake weapon that the the U.S. developed and used on Haiti. The arms race escalates.... ; )
fresh dirt in the pothole, I mean, C’’Mon, how did you not know that one?
Reference!
LOL I know, it DOES sound like the beginning of a sci fi movie.
That does not happen everyday
Maybe every six days. Very similar meteorite landed in Peru last Saturday.
Whoa! That sounds like a big impact. Good thing no one was under it.
Absolutely not. And don’t go poking it with a stick. You should never poke things from outer space with a stick.
you’dda thunk they would have some pics of the crater by now!
That's more of guideline than a rule. I mean, "never" is a long time, and sometimes the temptation is simply overwhelming.
But we can definitely agree on a prohibition against letting anything from space that you poke with a stick touch your skin.
Well yes I agree ‘’never’’ is a long time. I’d say then be very careful when poking things from outer space with a stick. Perhaps a very long stick might be in order.:-)
Scene from CREEPSHOW ...”Theat’s a meeteor”!
Wonder if things will start to “green up.”
Damn bugs, kill them all.
They’ve come for the rebel queen of the Wookies.
Michelle! You’re wanted in Mexico! They have come for you!
