Seems to me that a bladed grate above the water would be pretty effective. Kinda like a french fry maker.
Little fish gotta eat too ya know.

steel nets 20 feet below the bridge deck Just sounds to me like you'll hit the water neatly cubed.

How often do they plan to empty the nets?
That should be an interesting job.

$50 million so that notoriously morose “gays” have to find somewhere else to kill themselves...

Liberals always know better than engineers. They know that all sorts of "green energy" can work despite what engineers say, for instance.
In this case, the nets will act as sails, and the bridge was never designed for that type of stress.
This will be the result.

Most people jump from the side facing the city. Great view — almost romantic.
Kind makes you wonder about the folks who jump facing the Pacific. Unless it is at sunset — that might make sense.

So now they will jump and then strangle themselves?

Have nets with some sort of sensor so that after detecting relief that the plunge was halted they will open up and let the drop continue.

Maybe they will buy a couple thousand large fish dip nets and run around SF and catch them before they ever get to the bridge...sorta like catching butterflies. IMO that would be cheaper and more cost efficient.

Here we go again, government interference!

The board voted 16-0 to approve an environmental impact report that examines the consequences of hanging steel nets 20 feet below the bridge deck on each side. Now, THAT'S Liberalism in a nutshell.
They have an idea on how to save lives but, FIRST, we must learn how this might impact the environment.
In the meantime, y'all just go about your business. But, understand, you jump at your own risk.
You've been warned.
