Waxman-Markey seems dead, and Europe's southern periphery is bankrupt. But the wind-subsidy proposals being floated in Congress suggest that American political leaders have yet to understand that "green power" means generating electricity by burning dollars.Oh, I think that Congress understands it perfectly well. It's just that they and their cronies get to take a cut of those dollars on the way to the incinerator door.

We reject the idea of private property. —Peter Berle, President of National Audubon Society.
“I honor Earth First for having the guts to do the things they do. It’s not for me, but I understand why they do what they do. And, ultimately, we all help each other.” —Brock Adams, VP, Audubon Society, quoted in the Los Angeles Times.

"
In spite of the fact that environmental effects have been minimal and the amount of land affected is small, environmental groups such as the Audubon Society still strongly oppose drilling in the ANWR."

BTW, I am against tax credits and government subsidies of any kind for energy, including suburban, grid-tied solar (PV) systems, wind turbine systems, nuclear plants, oil and natural gas. If private property owners or business owners won’t pay for it, it’s not cost-effective enough for their situations or markets.
But the anti-wind-turbine advocacy is being used by neighborhood socialists to pass ordinances against privately owned wind turbines on off-grid, private properties (aesthetics, building height limits, phobias, jealousy, etc.). And on some private properties, certain kinds of home-built wind turbines do produce more amp-hours per dollars spent than PV systems. Grid electricity is not feasibly available for some homes (e.g., over $20,000 away) and remote equipment sites.
There are liars and crooks on every side of the energy debates, and I don’t trust any writer who refers to figures from the Audubon Society. More honest bird-kill studies have been done. And as for the “open space” proponents, they should move to countries that are more historically amenable to their communist causes.
There is no free market, where most people derive their incomes directly or indirectly from big government and anti-competition regulations. I really look forward to the defaults to come.

I traveled in west Texas in November where i saw an astounding number of wind turbines arrayed along low ridge lines. As in Wyoming and Idaho, by actual count, 10% + were not operating.
I made several such counts and the results were the same. count 30 windmills and 3 or 4 would be not turning. Count 10 and at least 1 was not working.

Ubama keeps touting “green jobs”. Is dismantling and hauling off defunct windmills a “green job”?

Global warming, large scale wind energy projects, ethanol subsidies. How can people fall for this stuff? Why don't we just let the market settle things?
Why don't we give all the greenies brooms and tell them to go out and sweep back the tides?

Again we see the "law of unintended consequences" stifling yet another liberal folly...wind turbines.
These devices are huge, and mechanical...they are going to breakdown; given the weight and forces involved, they are going to breakdown often.
Liberals love to build shiny, new things to razzle-dazzle their constituents, but seldom have the wherewithall to maintain and repair them as they crumble.
They keep up these windmills like they keep up city infrastructures (i.e. Detroit, Atlanta, etc.)...little, or not at all.
This wind power debacle is a farce of Bernie Madoff proportions lining the pockets of people like T. Boone Pickens, and producing very little electricity.
There is nothing wrong with conventional power production, and IF the nuclear plants ever go on line, it should solve most of the problems the dems like to dangle in our faces...to justify raising taxes, ya know.
Even Frogman Ted Kennedy didn't want the damn thing where he had to look at them up in the bay in Massachusetts. Of course, I'm sure he wouldn't have minded if they were in YOUR backyard.
Another Great American Ripoff, brought to you by liberals whose religion is enviromentalism, and those who have commandeered it because of its money making potential...paging algore...paging algore...it's snowing in Georgia.
Windmills worked great for years pumping water for the cows on farms all across the USA. They worked great for simlar purposes in Holland and other countries. But windmills to provide electric in the quantities we need it these days?...well, I doubt it...we'd end up with more windmills than appiances.
The cost of one windmill could feed several families for a year, and they produce very little in return.
I don't think that fewer carbon emitting devices would solve our energy "crisis" (never let a good crisis go to waste - Rahm Emmanuel), but I do think that fewer environmentalists would go a long way toward solving it.

Michael nails the unhealthy for Americans relationship between liberals in Congress and their green energy scams:
I think that Congress understands it perfectly well. It's just that they and their cronies get to take a cut of those dollars on the way to the incinerator door.

PG&E wants to build a Wave Energy project off shore of Humboldt Bay and the fishermen are up in arms as it is in the middle of prime Dungeness Crab waters. Was there a story recently that the IIPC fudged the numbers on Wave Energy potential?

Is dismantling and hauling off defunct windmills a green job? Actually it's about eight. Three Federal bureaucrats to over see the job, two EPA pukes to make sure no environmental damage is done, two OSHA employees for safety purposes and one illegal alien to do the dirty work.

This article is an eye-opener. The Europeans expect us to bail them out. The rich uncle is expected to bail out the profligate nephew. Why? “Because uncle’s rich and to leave us to sort out our own mess is just not fair. Our hearts were in the right place and uncle only cares about making money.” The U.S. is rich because, up to this point, we let the winners win and the losers lose. Not anymore.

And what happens to it when waves, like the ones at Marericks this weekend, come rolling in?
A couple of them came all the way in and took out the crowd.
