I did not know that he was offered NFL contracts. Interesting.

Whoa swiftboats were dangerous as hell. Maybe not as much as PT’s in the Pacific but close. You don’t know the full story.

Kerry was a suck up to the Kennedys and they knew some admiral. Swiftboats were a BS coastal thing that appeared to be a very safe gig so Kerry jumped on that. Well - somebody changed the duty for swiftboats and told them they had to go up rivers etc - see Apoc Now movie.

Kerry freaked out, scoured the manual and found 3 purple hearts gave you a trip back state side. He probably stabbed himself with the screwdrivers on the boat.

Not knocking SBs, just Kerry. I know they are tough duty especially in the narrow waterways in VN. Had a friend that did duty on the hovercraft they tried out there.

Haven’t reviewed the whole thread - but just in case no one else has posted this, here is something to advance the debate...

I have a deep dislike for Jackson.

Me too. He screwed over my people (Cherokees) big-time.

C’mon now, the man successfully ran to major wars at the same time, each critical to our national future, at the same time he had to deal with the divergent aims of different allies, and some ver critical and powerful allies who didn’t see eye to eye with us on much of anything but defeating the Nazis, and even then it was herding big cats, because they all wanted to do it in different ways. Not to mention prima donna generals and troops that all grew up together in the same staes, and had more loyalty to their own officers than the “outdsider” officers. I personally believe that while he may not have served in the trenches, his tasks in WWII were Herculean indeed. I can think of few men in history who could have accomplished what he did, and do it so successfully. He was/is a great man among men in my humble opinion.

I didn’t say anything bad about Ike...I like Ike! He may have been an outstanding staff officer, and was tremendously adept in both the political and administrative realms. I think he was much more prescient and visionary than most of our presidents have been in this century, and presided over what may have been some of this nation’s best, most productive and innovative years. I’m not rank ordering him as president, or as general, in which both capacities I think he excelled...but merely in response to the list of “manliest” presidents, in which personal acts of physical prowess and courage must be taken into account.

Yeah sorry if I gave the wrong impression. What was funny is the evil clown Kerry thought it was cushy duty. Some damn Admiral probably said BS - these boats will do river patrols and interdict ions. Kerry probably had a heart attack.

Kerry and McCain are so slimy (McCain's duty was admirable but later not so).

They both upgraded the wives for ones with more money. Two sleazy weasels with Kerry being far far worse. Kerry is a vile man. I made probably 2,000 phone calls for Bush more than anything to stop Kerry from being President due to his post Vietnam activities. Kerry defamed and smeared brave soldiers. I liked Bush too except his amnesty crap and his cruising in the last two years.

Yup. George Washington's efforts were incredible. Took a rag tag group against the biggest army in the world and very capable Hessian (German) mercenaries. Stepped down when he could have stayed.

I'm glad you mentioned Hayes!

He has the most manly beard of all the presidents. If he were alive today, I could see him playing guitar with ZZ Top. ;-)

That reminds me...

Has anybody seen any money with Geithner's signature on it yet?

If it offends you, you can always send it to me for proper disposal...

The category is for “manliest” President, not the President with the best policies.

I agree with you. And you forget tracking down and capturing some miscreants who stole his boat. And delivering a speech with an attempted assassin's bullet in his chest.

Teddy da man!
