Bushes in Naples: George W. and Jeb show personal side in appearance

NAPLES — The Bush brothers packed the house at the Naples Grande Beach Resort.

Former President George W. Bush and his brother Jeb Bush, the former governor of Florida, spoke Tuesday night as part of the Naples Town Hall Distinguished Speakers Series. They talked issues _ everything from health care and the Iraq war to budget deficits and Social Security reform.

George W. Bush, the 43rd U.S. president, has stayed out of the spotlight, limiting his face-time in public since leaving the White House about a year ago.

He and his brother – the state’s 43rd governor – addressed a crowd of more than 1,000 who purchased tickets to see them. Tickets to hear the duo speak started at $200.

The brothers had the crowd laughing, clapping and sighing with heart-felt emotions as they showed their more personal side. A few times, George W. Bush fought tears as he talked about the support of his wife in the Oval Office and how his decisions to send more troops to Iraq hurt families in the U.S. who lost their sons, daughters, husbands and wives to the war.

Did you ever think, that if it weren’t for Bush, there’d be no Obama?

And, before you go labeling me a “Bush hater,” know that I voted twice for both his “Read My Lips” old man as well as “Mission Accomplished” (it wasn’t that I really had a choice, though, considering who was on the Democratic side).

I don’t care much for New England political family dynasties, W-fan. I don’t care if they are named “Kennedy,” or “Bush,” or even “Adams” for that matter.

I look on political office as a calling rather than a privilege because of a good family name and a silver spoon to go along with it. It seems to me that we’ve had some pretty good leaders with names such as Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Jackson, Polk, Lincoln et al were singular rather than plurals when it came to the presidency and other political offices in the country.

So, sorry I don’t hold the same esteemed view that you do for George and his brother, Jeb. But that doesn’t make me any less of a conservative-leaning voter than you!

Actually, I think about it because a few Bush bashers on this forum keep saying it, but it runs counter to all the facts and relies on the emotions of the person making the claim.

There are many historic and factual reasons for Obama's election that I could enumerate here, but let me go deeper for you.

God, according to His word, appoints all the leaders of the nations. Some are righteous (George W. Bush) and some are not (Obama). But God appoints them and uses them for His Glory, regardless. George W. Bush chose to be obedient to God's call and asked God daily for wisdom, and though he didn't do everything according to my political wishes, he did what he thought was right, in prayer, and he did it honorably.

So in your blaming Bush for Obama you are assigning far too much power to a human being, and denying the Sovereignty of God.

Only one more comment on your post. I've got to laugh at your ignorance in bringing up "Mission Accomplished." You really do rely on the MSM for your Bush bashing info, don't you? That sign was for the troops of the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln who were being congratulated by their Commander in Chief for the FACT that they accomplished their mission bravely and quickly. Shame on you for not recognizing that they did what they were commanded to do and did it honorably. Shame on you for not realizing that they were overwhelmed with thanksgiving when their CinC came out to thank them for what they had done.

You can esteem or not esteem George W. and Jeb Bush, but you can't change the fact that they are both admirable men who served their country with honor and integrity.

It is an exercise in futility for you, eleni, to continue to try to prove that Bush was a bad man based on photos that prove he was a good man with a wonderful sense of humor.

Being a follower of Jesus Christ and treating everyone well is NOT a fault, eleni.

This you should try to understand....

Better get used to Jeb. I’d say there is a white house in his future.

“Better get used to Jeb. I’d say there is a white house in his future.”

Only if he paints his own house white.

well now... quite an argument you and "Deb" put forward.

Let me add about Jeb Bush as well...every time I see his smirk I remember this lady:

Terri

Had the Schindlers been big Bush donors, Terri would have been miraculously spared somehow.

NO doubt funds and desire for power have played a major role in the Bush mode of operations. Not much of a backbone there...

The elder Bush called Reagan “extreme” after all—if I remember he also called Reagan supporters “blockheads”

The Bushes are not my kind of conservatives but they still have their nostalgic suporters around here...

did you ever answer my question about whether or not you are still supporting Hayworth since he’s now declared he will support McCain if McCain is nominated?

I must have missed it.

That's an unbelieveably stupid comment, Theodore.

Perhaps you're imposing your own greed on the President's family.......

They are honorable people and did more than any Governor and President in history to save the life of one precious individual.

God BLESS them for what they did for Terri Schiavo!

The ignorant comments about President Bush and his family are astounding.

It's entirely different than disagreeing with his political policies. It's a deep seeded hatred based on a complete ignorance of who he is.

Astounding.

We actually haven’t had very much snow. The rest of WV did, but here on the river, we maybe got 4 inches over the month. I know you guys had a lot up there. Imagine, snow in every state except Alaska last week. Global warming gone amuck.

Girl, you have no idea what a great time we had. We managed to meet up with a Freeper whom we had never met, who had our tickets, then we found our way all the way down to the rope line. After the speech Pres. Bush made his way right down our rope line. He reached over and kissed OWF right on the cheek, and Eric and I managed to get a hand shake. We were all thrilled to pieces, but OWF was smitten. She & Eric spent the night at my house and I couldn’t get her to wash her face. Said she was never going to wash it again, as I recall. LOL. It was a glorious evening, not only because of getting so close to Mr. Bush, but for me, because of spending it with a good FRiend. But the best part was that wonderful young man who was the sweetest guy I’ve ever met. Sure made me wish I was 55 years younger. He was so gracious to this old woman and I appreciated it. I’ve lost track of time. What year was that OWF?
