[No. 331] Flood of Reports to Central Party "People on the Verge of Starvation Death"

02/16/10

(According to sources,) an official from the central party revealed, "There are 5,660 reports which reached the central party from provinces, saying that food situation is dire or people are on the verge of death from starvation. Of them, 2,000 reports even spelled out names of people died in their city or county." According to the reports, commerce has collapsed, food supply is completely cut off, and people are barely getting by eating food substitute such as residue from liquor and tofu manufacturing, corn skin, remnants from grain powdering process.

Folks reportedly complain that people are starving to death because currency reform was imposed on already struggling people, resulting in immediate shutdown of markets, disrupting the supply of necessities and food. An official said, "After the currency reform, the market was promptly shut down before establishing mechanism for supplying goods, leading to breakdown of food supply and starvation death of urban workers." At one point, farmers did get some extra bonus, which improved their living condition temporarily, allowing them to purchase some household goods while condition of urban workers badly deteriorated. Some in the party say, "Markets were abolished without addressing the problem of ration system, which is a badly ill-timed decision. Hasty implementation without (proper) preparation led to starvation death of urban workers."

Stories of starvation death come from many channels these days. This is completely due to collapse of market. The magnitude of renewed famine would become obvious in coming months. So far it appears that it won't be the repeat of great famine in 90's. By all accounts, it is on a smaller scale. If I hazard a guess, it might be on the order of thousands or tens of thousands. However, with this latest fiasco, people finally ran out of patience, and seriouly outraged. Enough potential here to credibly destabilize the regime.

Correction: Of them, 2,000 reports even spelled out names of people who died(of starvation) in their city or county.

This is probably the only country in the world which would be significantly improved if it was annexed by China. And that’s what’s likely to happen.

People are starving as I sit here stuffing my face with a rather large pastrami sandwich. If I could somehow give it to them, I would but it would just be confiscated by the regime to feed their immense military machine or go to their communist leaders.

We have a communist president who would love to see the same system here. Communism never works, never.

Can you believe this BS.

In our country Comrade Kim Jong Il has been giving wise leadership to all the work of the Party, state and army; the problem of ensuring continuity of leadership has thus been brilliantly solved.

In our country now Party work is successful, state work is successful, military operations are successful and socialist construction is successful, under the leadership of Comrade Kim Jong Il. Today in our country all the people have become a great family, single-heartedly united around the Party, and they are loyally supporting the Party’s leadership. In the course of many years of struggle under the Party’s leadership, our people have realized deep in their hearts that our Party is the true representative and stalwart champion of the masses and their great guide. Therefore, they entrust their destiny entirely to the Party. The recent conference of the families of martyrs from all parts of the country, the conference of Korean intellectuals and the Eighth Congress of the League of Socialist Working Youth of Korea and other conferences have clearly demonstrated again our people’s ardent and loyal support for the Party and their unshakable determination to defend and accomplish the socialist cause under the leadership of the Party.

We still have a lot of work to do to accomplish the socialist cause, the revolutionary cause of Juche. We must firmly adhere to our Party’s general line and press ahead with the ideological, technological and cultural revolutions to consolidate and develop people-centred socialism in our country and also realize national reunification, the cherished desire of our nation.

We have struggled for socialism all our lives, and it is inconceivable now to discard the best socialism of ours and restore capitalism, a society where “the rich grow richer and the poor grow poorer.” The road of socialism is the road of true freedom and happiness for the people, whereas the road of capitalism is the road of exploitation and oppression, misery and suffering for the people. The defence of socialism means victory, whereas giving up socialism means death. Since we pledged to build socialism when we started fighting for the revolution, we must defend socialism through to the end without the slightest vacillation and accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche.

In order to defend the people-centred socialism of our country and brilliantly accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche, the entire Party and all the people must unite firmly behind Comrade Kim Jong Il and loyally support his leadership. Loyal support for Comrade Kim Jong Il’s leadership is the sure guarantee for continuing and accomplishing the socialist cause.

Another poster child example of a country under totalitarian socialist-commie pig dictatorship!

Kind of like what 0bozo the socialist-commie pig usurper wants to do to our country!

Starvation deaths are reportedly concentrated in areas which used to be business hub, where major market is located. People there make their living doing business in the market. Now that market is shut down, they cannot make their living, and are starving to death. Especially Pyongsung in Pyongan Province, the major business bub in recent years since markets were allowed to operate, are producing disproportionate number of starvation victims lately, according to information coming out of N. Korea.

I have seen other articles about them having a poor harvest as well for a multiple of reasons, one of which is South Korea did not provide them with fertilizer subsidies like they did under the ‘sunshine policy’. I feel horrible for the people there, but I wonder how much sooner this regime could have been toppled if we had not sent them grain and financial assistance for years.

Of all food aid sent to N. Korea, most were hoarded by military and other connected institutions. They keep for their use and the rest is either sold at the market at jacked-up price, or exported overseas to earn hard currency.

The aid ended up fattening treasury of the regime and bankrolling their nuke/missile program. Without such aids, N. Korea would have collapsed more than a decade ago.
