In this case people have proven to be incapable of safely driving a motor vehicle while talking on a cell phone.

Oh great another nanny stater. Look, with Bluetooth headsets and voice control, there’s no reason why you can’t converse with someone avows town (or the other side of the world) while driving. Unless you want to ban any and all conversations with anyone in your vehicle. And the o ly way I can see that being enforced would be to require Onstar style systems in all cars with the mikes ALWAYS OPEN!

Now texting and driving.... The guys should have their nuts cut off and the women... Well I don’t know.... What would be equal to being castrated?

Sure, as long as they also ban carrying passengers that you can talk to while driving, eating while driving, having kids or babies in the back seat that you reach around to hand the pacifier to, DVD players, smoking and may as well include manual transmissions with clutches which also take your attention and one hand off of the wheel.

Texting is a real problem but talking on a phone is no different than any of those others. Most people naturally turn to talk to the person in the seat beside them to make eye contact. Next time you’re in the passenger seat in city traffic watch the people in the car in front of you and most of the time you’ll see the driver turning their head back and forth. The mother reaching around to the back seat to mollify a screaming kid has been going on for a long time and pulling a smoke from the pack, digging for the lighter and then lighting it takes a lot of attention if you don’t want to stick the butt in your left nostril and light the tip of your nose. I’ve noted women obviously adjusting their bras while driving and guys rooting around to scratch their asses. There are all kinds of distractions and the act of talking on a phone is just one small one among many.
