Sarah Palin is definitely no fool
Manassas News/Messenger ^ | 2/16/2010 | Charles Reichley

Posted on 02/20/2010 5:16:41 PM PST by CharlesWayneCT

Last week, this paper ran an editorial attacking ex-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, saying "If there was ever any doubt that Sarah Palin is a fool, she has removed it."
...
the paper's editorial was off base, short on facts, long on innuendo and did a disservice to her considerable achievements.
...
The editorial said Palin was partisan and predictable when attacking Rahm Emanuel for using the word "retarded" as a pejorative.
...
The editorial misses the bigger point. Rush is a private citizen commenting on a talk show. We may not like what he says, but he speaks for himself. Rahm Emmanuel on the other hand is a public official, Chief of Staff to the President of the United States, our employee, paid with our tax dollars to work for all of us. We have a right to object to how public officials express themselves.
...
The editorial called Palin "hypocritical" for joking about Obama's incessant use of a teleprompter, but writing notes on her hand for a keynote speech.

...

—the term "Speaking off the Cuff" comes from the use of notes written on the cuff of a shirt to make a speech.
...
The editorial wraps up by calling Palin "thoughtless, uninformed, impulsive, and opportunistic." I think those adjectives better apply to Barack Obama. Thoughtless—he compared his bowling to the Special Olympics. He hugged the Queen, and bows to foreign leaders. He's had to apologize multiple times for thoughtless comments about Vegas. Uninformed—he thought he could shut Guantanamo in a year. He claimed surgeons get $50,000 to amputate a leg (actual price: around $1,000). Impulsive—he attacked the Boston police for arresting a friend while admitting he knew nothing about the issue.

This is a response to an editorial that ran last week in the same local paper. We discussed it in this thread:

Editorial: Abandon all hope, ye who support Palin

I thank those freepers who participated and helped formulate opinions in response.

The comments are funny, there's a group who are doing a "draft Palin" movement as a joke.

"The editorial said Palin was partisan and predictable when attacking Rahm Emanuel."

Yes, very unfair to attack such a statesman as Rahm Emanuel with lowly unfounded partisanship.

Reading the responses strengthens my belief that the majority of those who subscribe to or follow newspapers are liberals.

Nice work especially given the vile left wing culture at this site.

Hat’s off for writing a reasoned and objective response to what is obviously an issue many of us have a lot of passion about. Well done, and thanks.

Regardless, there will always be those who fail to understand that character is more important than personality, that wisdom encompasses more than an accumulation of letters after ones name, and that empathy and common sense are as vital to the art of communication as are eloquence and vocabulary.

The Palin attacks have lost their sting. People know what editorial writers, late night comedians, and most news anchors are going to say about her before they say it. Rush is great at predicting what they are going to do and say even before they know it. These libs are so mean they just want to try and keep private citizen Palin down as much as they can. They should find other ways to focus their energies rather than on private citizens.

The comments are funny...

I went to the comments on the newspaper website under the first editorial.

It was amazing to discover how the readers of this particular paper seemed to have no inkling of what conservatives stood for and what the objectives of the Tea Party Movement were. Through about 100 posts, only one claimed to be a "conservative". But she was a country clubber, at best. And the rest were out-and-out liberals -- heavily stacked toward government workers, no doubt.

It was a trip into Fantasyland -- certainly driving home the contention that the Beltway is "out of touch".

Apparently, all they know "is what they read in the newspapers".

Anyone who can't see the obvious differences there is certainly a 'Retard'.

The Left has unfortunately planted the seeds of "repeat, repeat" in that "Palin quit office half way through her term". They also say if she cannot "take the heat" [frivolous law suits], then how could she be a viable candidate for anything higher? The choir of the Left say she only wrote the book for her own financial "greed". They even blame her for the "bridge to nowhere"!

I can respond that she stated in her farewell speech she had accomplished all that she and the Lt Governor set out to do in 2 years, instead of the 4. I can respond she had won all bogus cases in court, but they just mock with laughter "the ridiculous". The Leaders on the Left have done their smear jobs well!

Beck had many standing ovations!! CPAC poll had Ron Paul first, Romney second, and perhaps Palin too low, just my opinion. Heard the ongoing boos and jeers in the crowd which had been extremely positive moments earlier with Glenn's presentation.

Most of the area conservatives ignore the paper for the most part, and they write in blogs instead of posting comments to the paper.

And frankly, there are really just a half-dozen people writing comments. It’s the same people every time, with the same tired arguments. And there’s about a half dozen on the “conservative” side, most who don’t really help the cause, and I’m not sure they are really trying to.

Occasionally some good conservatives wander in, it’s fun to watch the regulars scurry back under their rocks when that happens. Most of them are pretty upset that there are conservatives who get to write opinion columns.

I am sure she and her family weighed the pros and cons of remaining in office, and if she did stay, I think the eventual fallout would have been even worse for her.

When I think of how a guy like George Allen left the national political scene over one maccacca statement, and yet Sarah is still standing after over a year of continuous attacks on her, she appears to be an even more remarkable woman in my opinion.

"George Allen left the national political scene over one maccacca statement"

What is odd to me about Allen, the Maccacca statement, highlighted continuously by Chris Matthews on his MSNBC show, is that Allen was an invited attendee at the studio's 5th year anniversary roof top party for Matthews. I could not wrap my mind around this during that time. This was, you see, all during the same time-frame. Therefore, I was glad to see Allen go. I called, it at the time, good theater or Carnivale. So, if this was so perilous to Allen, why was he and The Softballer buddies? I also showed the pictures at the time of this gathering--on FR. People were posting the Maccacca, and I was posting the "buddies" in celebration.

This link above is not the one I used, as it was reported by an insider at the party. You will see McCain there as well.

I believe it was Glenn Beck (?)who insinuated recently the insincerity of some well known media pundits. Beck held back names. I thought back of the above instance and also the acknowledged friendship between Ms.Coulter and Bill Maher.

Doesn't make sense does it.

Some things no matter how minor (aka trivia) in the grande scheme of things, I can't seem to forget. Always leaves me wondering.

The best and most accurate answer I can give you is that Crithy matthews is a treacherous alcoholic who has no loyalty to anything but the leftist agenda.

That he was able to get a couple of congressmen to attend his party is not a great surprise, and I am sure they had their own motive for attending.

Last year he had Michele Bachmann on his show, which proved to be disastrous for her, as he turned on her during the itnerview in Charles gibson style. He is treacherous.

Fortunately, she survived it, and she has become much more media savvy in the past year, as has Sarah Palin.

BTW, Allen is still friendly with Mark Levin.
