WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Many teachers and educators across the United States are at risk of losing their jobs in the next few months, the country's education secretary told a meeting of the National Governors Association on Sunday.

"I am very, very concerned about layoffs going into the next school year starting in September. Good superintendents are going to start sending out pink slips in March and April, like a month from now, as they start to plan for their budgets," said Arne Duncan, referring to the slips of paper included in some paychecks to notify a person of being fired.

As tax revenues in most states continue to plummet because of weak economies, states and cities are considering cutting education to keep

I am watching this dude Arne Duncan on CSPAN right now at the Governor's conference. What a bs thrower. No wonder he's tight with Barack Obama's --buddy from Chicago.

Get ready for the Education Bailout! I don't get states having to apply for Race to the Top grants. That siphons off energy and time to get our own money back!!

Translation:

“We need to bail out another union that has failed (the NEA).”

Pension costs are a large part of the reason for the layoffs. The problem will only get worse.

I could give a rat ass about teachers and teachers unions. I live in New Jersey and the bloody NJEA has had a strangle-hold on the taxpayers of this state for years. Who the hell are teachers that they can’t be out of a job?

Glad they clarified that for me.

I couldn’t agree more.

Tenure should be banned. No tax money to teachers’ unions. They’re all collectivist/Marxist in nature.

Support vouchers so that there is a double hit, once when the taxpayer’s take their money away from their local school and again when they put it into an alternative school that is successful.

Why don’t we just close the NEA and turn education over to the states.

With a rat legislature, how do you rate Christie’s chances to neuter the NJ public employee unions?

Keep the teachers.

Let the “educators” freeze to death in the dark after we fire their stupid Obama-sses.

The NEA should be called the DNEA where the D stands for democrat.
They've destroyed education in this country.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Exactly! You are one of the few that “get it”!

Simply by attending children learn that the government has the power to do two things:

1) Take money from their neighbor to pay for a service their parents want tuition-free. And...Their progressive teachers ( from the very beginning in the mid-1800s) have taught several generations of voters that it is their “right” to have this “free” service.

2) Treat people ( students) who have committed no crime like they were prisoners. Children learn that the government has the police power to strip them ( and indirectly their parents) of EVERY First Amendment Right! Our government schools are like prisons. There is no right to free speech, press, exercise of religion, or freedom to assemble with people of the parents’ and children's choosing. And...The government establishes a godless worldview every minute of every school day!

So?...After a mere 3 generations of government indoctrinated children we had the beginnings of the “progressive” fascist state:

***The IRS
***the federal reserve
*** direct election of Senators
*** Unions
*** feminist movement
*** the failed League of Nations followed by the abominable U.N.
*** FDR and his New Deal elected four times
*** Johson’s Great Society
*** the abolishment of the gold standard
*** and a thousand socialist programs and agencies

All of the above is due to my great grandparents, grandparents, and parents being made to feel completely comfortable with taking their neighbor's money by attending socialist modeled government schools!

Government schools have ****always**** been a progressive Utopian wet dream! The push has ***always** been toward increasing secularism followed by what is now pure atheistic Marxism. The Utopian progressives have ***always** been in control of teacher training and textbook development.

Government schools can NOT be fixed because they ARE SOCIALISM!!!! Socialism can not be fixed. It must be abolished.

And..Yes,...I am shouting. You are among the few conservatives who understand the problem. It is amazing how stooooopid other conservatives can be about this.

Please read post #17.

Getting rid of the NEA will not fix government schools.

Government schools **are** socialism. Socialism can not be fixed.

Again....Please, read post #17.

That is the big question. No doubt about it. In any other time and economy there would be little of any reason to change the system. However times are different and the great majority of Jerseyans aren’t in any mood for paying more property taxes for lavish teachers salaries and benefits and perks. I don’t know honestly Jacquerie, it’s still early but can tell you the unions in this state are going to just lie down over this, the bastards. Pardon a moi for saying so.
