ANOTHER Nail in the Global Warming Coffin

Posted on 02/21/2010 8:22:14 PM PST by Starman417

How long until the Warmer's admit it's all been big fat LIE?

It was just a week ago that I posted on the near total collapse of global warming hysteria. No warming, no increase in hurricanes fury or frequency, no melting Himalayan glaciers or destruction of the Amazon rain forest.

The last few months have seen one domino after another dropping to expose the fallacy of man made global warming. Now, the latest, coming to us from the left wing Guardian newspaper in Britain:

Climate scientists withdraw journal claims of rising sea levels
Study claimed in 2009 that sea levels would rise by up to 82cm by the end of century – but the report's author now says true estimate is still unknown
By David Adam

Scientists have been forced to withdraw a study on projected sea level rise due to global warming after finding mistakes that undermined the findings.

The study, published in 2009 in Nature Geoscience, one of the top journals in its field, confirmed the conclusions of the 2007 report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). It used data over the last 22,000 years to predict that sea level would rise by between 7cm and 82cm by the end of the century.

If I read a previous post correctly, the paper was withdrawn due to the fact that they think the water levels will be higher.
And also to correct you, the glaciers are melting, just not in the timeframe previously stated by the IPCC.

yes, they are off the hook, then. They couldn't have known the U.S. would elect a sea-rise stopping socialist when the published this study back in '07.

Sea level is the truest indicator of global warming if any. Ice melt from land plus the thermal expansion of the oceans themselves would show if it was really happening. It was rising at 2mm per year so that’s 19cm by century’s end. About 7 1/2 inches. Yawn.

2009 paper confirming IPCC sea-level conclusions withdrawn, mistakes cited.

How about if they just cite polls instead of science?

Question: how do you accurately measure a 2mm rise in the ocean levels? I would guess that atmospheric pressure alone could wreak all kinds of havoc with an accurate measurement.

I don’t know if your off or not, its just another link.

They have not even proven that warming is happening or that mankind has caused it if it is happening.

“Siddall said that he did not know whether the retracted paper’s estimate of sea level rise was an overestimate or an underestimate.”

The rest of the article is “spin control”.

No one really knows if the glaciers are melting or simply sublimating ~ in the aggregate.

If there's a failure in the system that keeps high altitude glaciers supplied with new moisture (these things are called droughts), then normal sublimation will make them shrink.

That's certainly the case with Kilamanjaro.

An area of Western Antarctica and an area of Greenland have some now active volcanic structures ~ no doubt these things turn on and off with some regularity, but Fur Shur they melt ice.

That doesn't mean the normal subzero (C) conditions of either place are anything other than subzero.

You may be confounding "glaciers" with "sea ice". Now "sea ice" extends out over ocean water. Salt water doesn't freeze until it's like 28 degrees, but it does dissolve ice floating on it ~ technically melting it, but still below 32 degrees.

What that means is sea ice is doomed to turn into sea water at some rate ~ no matter what we do.

There's actually very little monitoring done of the largest global source of glaciers ~ the higher elevations in the Himalayas. The few IPCC tales about those glaciers were found to be based on supposition and "just so" stories with no science behind them.

So, here's the deal ~ point to a peer review journal piece, with data, about glaciers all over the world.

If you point one more time to that one piece about one small valley in the vicinity of Mt. Everest, I will scream.

That piece reports as "hard knowledge" material that could only be known after the utilization of "new never before used techniques" reported several years after the report on that valley was first published.

I hope you understand that people who make claims that the ocean is rising, the mountains are falling, the ice is melting, the hurricanes are stronger, and the wind blows harder MUST PROVIDE DATA these days ~ not just "feel good model results" or "wild guesses". That's thanks to Climategate. No one trusts people making such claims anymore.

Romney claims in his new book that man-made global warming is real, serious and that we must do something about it. And Fox News will continue to promote him how....?

Read it. IOW, they don’t know what the hell they are talking about.

I’ve got to be honest about me feelings on this.
-I am slow to jump on the “everything is bs because of 4 bad numbers” bandwagon.
-I don’t think global warming is man made.
-I think perhaps the climate is warming.
a) is warming bad?
b) what temperature is. the.earth supposed to be?

I don’t think the whole deal is debunked by any stretch of the imagination. I think we are just going to get repeated bad studies.

I’m no scientist. Just some jerk on a keyboard.
