In 2011, there will be a few acts that cause loss of life.

I can assure you beforehand, it is not terrorism.

AFB gate security ranges from worthless rentacops to concrete barriers, S-turns, and lots of men with M-16s. I’m note sure how they decide what a particular base gates.

The term for Air Police was scrapped somewhere in the late 1960's for a more fanciful term, Security Police. The S.P.s that were at the gates when I was in the USAF were posted at the gates and many did not have weapons and if they did, were not allowed to have ammunition. I hope after 911 this has changed. I was given (1)one bullet to guard seven fully automatic M-16s used in the Honor Guard during funerals. The M-16s were loaded with blanks. (1974-1977).

A security forces officer reportedly tried to talk to two men inside a car, previously reported stolen and then driven through a gate at the base, said Officer Karen Gerardo, the public information officer at the Glendale Police Department.

When the officer got out of his car to try to make contact with the two men, the car drove directly at him. The officer shot at the car, which then crashed, said Gerardo.

One of the occupants of the vehicle was killed. His cause of death has not been determined.

The other person in the car was injured and transported to a hospital.

Investigators do not suspect terrorism, said Gerardo.

The Navy is three up on both the Army and the Air Force.

We have MARINES.

So, this looks like a garden-variety dumb car-thief problem. OK. I’m good with that.

PS. If you’re going to steal a car, don’t drive it onto a military base...

I think they ruled out terrorism before the incident actually happened.

Seems they do that a lot lately.

Actually AF police are now referred to as ‘security forces’, and most of the gates are now manned by Rent-a-Cops while the SF patrol inside the base. This is due to manning issues as so many SF are deployed overseas.

The incident on Luke involved a vehicle that got through the gate. An SF person in a patrol confronted and shot the perps.

As for treatment of civilians, well if you are on the base illegally or in a restricted area, SF will have no problems jacking you up big time — and this case is a good example. Once the SF determined his life and the lives of others on base was in danger he reacted and controlled the situation.

We have to prevent the inevitable "backlash" of widespead violence against peace-loving, patriotic Muslim-Americans by extremist right-wing xenophobes.

Ours here are unarmed "rent a cops".

Recall that US Military prison guards in Iraq were issued rubber bullets after the Abu Ghraib affair broke.

If they take a realllllly long time to release the surnames of the two perps, we will know immediately the specific game they are into; they did this in Ft. Hood and elsewhere, too. Just in case, I would easily imagine C.A.I.R. would have activated their Quick Response Team (QRT) PR spin operation in D.C. there at 8:00 a.m. and called them all in early today.

Per live phone interview from Public Info Officer, the Glendale police have taken over the case and have 1 suspect in custody.

During my recent contract work at Andersen AFB , Guam, I saw that they had an even different but similar name- Security Forces.

They are saying it is “Not terrorism” when it sounds precisely like that to me.

I was in Pensacola a couple of months ago. I'd forgotten my GPS and I got lost driving around in the dark looking for my hotel. I wound up at the front gate of the Pensacola Naval Air Station. I was greeted by two rock hard Marines, the kind that can stare a hole right through you. Both had loaded M-16's. (I noticed the clip was in both) Nobody in their right mind would try to crash through the gate at a US Military installation these days except a terrorist thug type. It would be suicide.

locally radio (streaming live) is purposely avoiding the "t" word as they report the news, and is coming up with all kinds of other plausible explanations...ANYTHING but the dreaded "t" or "i" or "m" words. amazing how they bend over backwards to not touch the topic of terrorism, at the very moment we are at War and had an attack in a nearby state just a few months ago on a US base. weird.

"aw, that aircraft noise is just a Sunday morning drill, ensign. get back to sleep and quit making all the racket, i gotta helluva hangover from Waikiki last night."

As of 6:14AM, barely a mention of the incident on local news.

According to Fox news...

..the officer in charge of the investigation won't name the perps or give a description..

..just some hapless car thieves who took a wrong turn....right

And yes, the guard took out one perp and injured the other...(who I think was air lifted somewhere)
