“RANGEL: I had really hoped that when we came here that we were really going to push over the top”

CORRECTION: It SHOULD read ...

RANGEL: I had really hoped that when we came here that we were really going to shove this piece of socialism up the ass of America ...

One Dem and one Republican. It was a nonpartisan black forum at the Women's National Republican Club. Vincent Morgan was the Dem; Michael or Michel Faulkner the Pubbie. There were many other panelists and many other subjects discussed.

Nobody went near the bar, and after a long scolding speech on "choice" by Jhemu Greene, only one person clapped. A nice change from the usual!

Rangel's not the only Democrat facing ethical questions.

Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi
Rep. Pete Visclosky of Indiana and top aide
Charles Brimmer
Sen. Max Baucus
Sen. Roland Burris of Illinois was recently admonished by the Senate Ethics Committee

“Thanks to Nancy Pelosi’s lapses in judgment, the rap sheet on the Democratic-led Congress is getting longer by the day,”.... “When the speaker promised to ‘drain the swamp,’ she probably didn’t think she’d be fighting off hypocrisy charges four years later heading into the 2010 elections.” --Ken Spain, communications director for the National Republican Congressional Committee.

The Office of Congressional Ethics, an independent watchdog was created by Democrats in 2008.

WASHINGTON — The Associated Press has learned that the House ethics committee has concluded that Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel knowingly accepted Caribbean trips in violation of House rules that forbid hidden financing by corporations.

A congressional source familiar with the findings but not authorized to be quoted by name said at least four of members of the Congressional Black Caucus on the trips in 2007 and 2008 have been exonerated.

What will happen to him?

Removal from chairmanship?

Will he lose his vote?

Likely nothing at all.

It took forever to get Rostenkowski out.

“What will happen to him?”

hmmmmmmmmmmm ...

http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/dailypolitics/2010/02/report-house-ethics-panel-find.html

The story is developing, but one person this doesn’t help (aside from the veteran Harlem congressman, who already has one announced primary opponent, several other Democrats gunning for him and a GOP challenger) is Gov. David Paterson.

Rangel has been one of the embattled governor’s biggest defenders. Now they’re both officially on the ropes, it appears.
