"Honest adults with licensed guns, go away. Lawbreakers looking for sitting ducks, step right in." Actually, the sign at the entrance to the Phoenix, Arizona restaurant simply read, "No Firearms." I returned to my car and left.
A wave of constipated thinking has afflicted some Arizonans after legislators passed a law allowing licensed concealed handguns to be carried into businesses that serve alcohol as long as the licensees consume none. Proprietors have the option to post the "No Firearms" sign, and many have done so.

In Fl. we have had CCW since 1989 and I have never seen a single sign like that.
In Arizona to boot, Cowboy country!

Best thing to do is tell the restaurant that you won't dine there and you will tell all your friends not to. Word of mouth can kill a business faster than anything else.

The owners have a right to post whatever they want.
It's a free country (for a little while more at least).
You have a right to vote with your feet. And your wallet.
When he starts to lose too much business, the sign will come down.

When I lived in Phoenix (almost 19 years ago) I remember seeing "No Guns Allowed" signs on grocery stores and such even back then. I was new to the state so I asked someone what that was all about and they said that because many people chose to open carry some business posted signs because they didn't want any guns in their stores (as if it would stop a criminal).
I have to admit I was kind of surprised since it was Arizona, but then again, it was in the Phoenix area. I don't remember seeing any of those types of signs in Flagstaff or any smaller cities.

When you decide not to enter such an establishment, a letter to the proprietor explaining why you did not come in and spend your money, accompanied by a copy of Suzanna Gratia Hupp’s account of the Luby’s massacre.

Posted “No firearms”
Isn’t that sort of asking to be robbed by a gun toting “criminal”

If a restaurant or store has a “No Firearms” sign, I ask to speak with the manager.
I ask the manager if they have armed security in their establishment.
When the manager says ‘no’, I tell him that I will not make myself and my family defenseless while he advertises to criminals that there are no firearms present.
Then, I walk away.

I remember reading about an incident in Florida years ago where some idiot tried to rob a restaurant only to find himself surrounded by a bunch of gun toting geezers who weren’t happy about having their lunch interrupted.
To: BitWielder1
That may be why he put the sign up in the first place. Many people feel uncomfortable knowing there are armed persons around them and their family. I’m guessing there are more people like that, than would leave because of the sign.

We have the same law working it’s way through the legeslature in NM. The same tired arguments from the restaurant owners.
Since CCW holders can’t drink in an establishment when carrying, the restaurant owners don’t like that loss of revenue either.

Stuff like that drives me crazy. I would make a small sign — something that says “Gun-free zone — unarmed sitting ducks inside” and tape it to their front door. They’d take it down, of course, but it might make someone think.

Then let the free market do it's work.
Let us all be free to choose between gun-gunfree, smoke-smokefree, kids-kidsfree etc. Fine with me.

Kalefornicator infiltration. However, the free market should clear up the problem. Kind of like smoke free casinos in Las Vegas.
