Why Not Nominate the Next Reagan in 2012?
American Thinker ^ | February 27, 2010 | Bruce Walker

If Republicans could, surely they would nominate Ronald Reagan for president in 2012. As it appears increasingly likely that Republicans -- conservative Republicans -- will control Congress after the 2012 elections, the only missing element in the political equation is a strong, conservative president like Ronald Reagan. In the mix of possible candidates for 2012, there are some potentially promising people.

For those of you who want to cut to the chase, the author's pick for the next Reagan is Fred Thompson.

He blew it.

Too many of us resent him for spitting at our outstretched hands. He HAD the 2008 GOP nomination and probably the Presidency, but decided it was too much work.

Net result: the TOTUS-reader.

Huckabee...they have GOT to be KIDDING.

Saw a partial interview with Hannity.
He is a certifiable RINO.
He thinks Zero is reasonable. BS. Backing him is a big mistake.

I’m interested in Ryan. But he says no to run. We shall see.

I do like Fred a lot, but I’ll be very surprised if he runs again.

Mitt Romney, who decently withdrew from the race before he lost in 2008, ought to be on the short list as well. Mike Huckabee will be some conservatives’ favorite as well. Tim Pawlenty has decided that America really needs him to be president, and other Republicans will too.

No. Thank you.

That’s why Fred supported Howard Baker over Reagan.

I love Fred but his performance in his last campaign pretty much spelled the end of any chance of running again ... unless there is some disaster of epic proportions that requires an elder statesman at the helm and then it goes to the best ticker between Fred and Big Time.

Michael Reagan has spoken on the subject already.

No repeats from 2008. We wasted a lot of time supporting Fred and were caught off guard with McCain.

In the 2008 race, Fred Thompson had a big impact before he ever announced, from about April 2007 to Sept 2007. In that timeframe Fred took down Rudy and it was well worth his effort. Once Fred made it official on Leno, however, conservatives began to reject his candidacy and he just faded away. I doubt things would be different in 2012.

My choice for the nomination is Paul Ryan. He’s superb.

“That’s why Fred supported Howard Baker over Reagan.”

That’s something I didn’t know. Supporting McCain, CFR, etc was bad enough.

I like Fred. I supported Fred in 2008. But, Fred had his chance. Its time to move on to a fresher crop of emerging conservative leadership — Palin, Cantor, Jindal, etc.

“— conservative Republicans — will control Congress after the 2012 elections...”

.
Do we even have enough conservative Republicans to fill the seats of the Marxists in Congress or will we just water down their numbers with a bunch of RINOs who make promises but do not deliver and whose greatest accomplishment is their “reaching across the aisle”?
