US national security leaders and top cyber warriors from around the world are gathering here to plot defenses against criminals and spies that increasingly plague the Internet. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and White House Cyber Security Coordinator Howard Schmidt will take part in this week's RSA conference along with computer defense companies and technology icons such as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and Craigslist creator Craig Newmark.
"We have before us more data moving into the cloud and more sophisticated cyber criminals," said Qualys chief executive Philippe Courtot, who is among the keynote speakers at the premier event that kicks off on Monday.
"We need corporations, government and community working closer together."
Social networking and applications being hosted as services in the Internet "cloud" are among hot Internet trends presenting opportunities for hackers and challenges for those guarding networks.
Gone are the days when protecting computers meant building virtual fortress walls to keep attackers out and then hunting down software viruses by simply matching codes to lists of known offenders.

More and more attractive targets (cash, personal data, military secrets, intellectual property) have been moved onto digital platforms, attracting the attention of more scammers, bots, and crackers. Implanted ID chips with wireless remote connections would be even more susceptible to h4xing than card-based ID. Every wardriver, script kiddie, and bored Chinese teenager in the world would get into the game of busting the implant network. Live by the Cloud, die by the Cloud.
Sooner or later, the world will return to physical currency (coin) and physical documentation. All it will take is one major attack to reduce the Average Joe’s trust in the Cloud to zilch. Cash is already king; in a world where any network can be penetrated, it will be emperor.
You can’t hack matter — not yet, anyway.
Where would you stash 1000 C-notes and not worry about them? I'm thinking of the dog in that ad.

Government civilians, government contractors, and UIS military personnel ALL use the current Common Access Card "CAC Card" system, and have been doing so for years.
For most of these cards, they have everything on them in terms of personal information: your insurance, security clearance, entire medical records, shot records, dental records, intimate family details, etc. Moreover, you need the CAC to access almost any system.
So, can easily see the other posters point about everyone being required to have a personal ID system coming. The problem with the "Cash is King" philosophy is that it is no longer valid in today's world. Cash may work for a time after a natural disaster, or in some places. But we live in a world where the current paper cash you own can be declared worthless in a matter of weeks, if not days (if not hours).
Gold is still gold, but try buying groceries with it if you have to. Also, if the police organizations (state, Federal, international) can track everything else, you can be damn sure that if we are in a crisis (natural or financial) they will track anyone trying to trade, buy, or sell gold or precious metals. Those metals would be highly regulated, if not illegal in the future if we went to a global currency, because they could not control the currencies value if they were not.
You would last on the street as long as a drug dealer - probably a few weeks at best, and then someone would turn you in or tip off the authorities.

If the purpose of entering data quickly is to repeatedly guess a password, such a defense could be useful, since guessing passwords by entering them at "human speed" would take too long. If hackers already have your password, it's easy for hackers to slow down data entry so that it doesn't look suspicious.
One very useful thing that users can do, if banks make them available, is to use a digital security key. Your password changes often (say every 30 seconds) and you press a button to get your current password. Even if they guessed your password once, it would change in a few seconds.
