Billionaire Warren Buffett says health care costs are a major drain on U.S. businesses and act like an "economic tape worm."

The head of the holding company Berkshire Hathaway Inc. said Monday on CNBC that America's health care system needs fundamental reform to attack costs because it's not practical to continue devoting roughly 17 percent of the nation's gross domestic product to health care.

It's on Drudge, but the title is misleading. There is no indication Buffet is drinking the Obama Kool-Aid. He rightly says we need to get costs under control

My reaction to the Drudge headline was the same as yours.

Buffett is right. Healthcare costs are tough on business, which is having enough trouble in this economy as it is. We need a fix, just not an Obama fix.

Not yet, but remember AARP said at first it didn't support Obamacare.

The first thing we can do is to not allow illegals to receive free health care and ending the “anchor baby” clause. After that we can go for tort reform.

Combine those and we would go most of the way to clear up our monetary problems.

While I unequivocally support ending free health care for alien invaders and support tort reform, those are not at the heart of the problem.

Until we dramatically increase the number of physicians and have more options in hospitals, we will be subject to monopoly pricing.

And also reduce our current number of LEGAL immigrants, i.e., 1.2 million annually. 34 percent of immigrants lack health insurance, compared to 13 percent of natives. Immigrants and their U.S.-born children account for 71 percent of the increase in the uninsured since 1989.

More proof that our national socialist elite want the government to take on health care costs so they can reap more private profits.

TRI CARE FOR LIFE This from a google search:

http://economicspolitics.blogspot.com/2009/05/tricare-for-life-is-obama-trying-to.html

This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollee’s cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.) http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/99xx/doc9925/12-18-HealthOptions.pdf

Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.
Snip The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.

Snip

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.

“President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees” in fiscal 2010, Matz said. “We took them at their word, and I can’t believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward,” he added.

Who is he to say that we spend too much on health care? Seriously, does the government say we spend too much on food, cars or DVD rentals? Well, maybe they do.

The biggest problem is the disconnection between receiving the service and paying for it, and any form of national insurance only increases that disconnection. People no longer make choices based on cost so they spend as much as available. In a normal market that drives up costs, brings in more suppliers and limits the marginal demand. With Obamacare fewer people will become doctors and fewer medical machines and drugs will be invented and sold so supply will descrease. With decreased supply and increased demand if prices are foced down, there will be a lot more demand than supply and external rationing will be the only possible result.

The most fundamental way to control the costs of health care is to structure the financial arrangements so that people are spending their own money. The debate then shifts to the question of what do we do with people who are indigent. I am happy to have that discussion.

Indeed, this is a discussion that the Fair Tax needs to pick up. We must decide where to draw the line: who is indigent and deserves our help and who must be expected to carry their own weight, and if possible help those who cannot.

We have declined to have this discussion because of the obvious reason: people have the right to vote and participate in the political process irrespective of their economic status. Poverty pimping is a proven career path for politicians. It is almost suicide for pols to ask the public these questions. Yet we must decide this.

The alternative is to allow “poverty programs” to offer so many benefits that too many people think it is better to sign up for them rather than to work. Already the average poor person in the US has airconditioned living quarters that are more spacious on average than those of the average middle class person in Europe. The average poor person has a washing machine, a color TV and a cell phone. The average poor person can go to a doctor and have any serious condition addressed yet not pay a penny.

So, it is natural that “poor” people (that is those who qualify for these programs) will vote for pols who promise more. We are dangerously near the point where these people form a parasitic class that threatens to kill the host. And is is no surprise when they vote themselves subsidized home loans and lowered lending criteria. This is exactly the dynamic of the Community Reinvestment Act, that lead to the mortgage debacle and collapse. It is exactly this dynamic that brings us to where the President would think it proper to “spread the wealth around”.

We must do all we can to put Leviathan back in his cage where he belongs.

Grandad always told me..you can't put a price on your health, So I always made sure I had the best insurance. The sleazy "national business community"(yes that is what it has come to) was in on this failed takeover big time...has been all along. They wanted it across the board so people won't walk out on their jobs because of poor insurance benefits and go to another company or state. Piss on 'em all, they don't give a crap about this country or freedom , let alone the health of the people.

They want to take away the good health care of 270 million to give lousy care to a phantom 30 million to make their grand plans work. Shove it. We worked too hard and too long for those benefits. Take your thirty million illegal benefit sucking potential voters/customers and stick it where the sun don't shine. Nothing like a little back stabbing of the loyal to open up your eyes. Fight organized crime, reelect none of the self serving, pocket lining fools.
