Argentina asked for U.S. help Monday in resolving a brewing dispute with Britain over the Southern Atlantic islands that were the subject of a brief war more than 25 years ago and where Britain has begun drilling for oil.
Argentine President Cristina Fernandez said she made the request during an unexpectedly lengthy meeting with visiting Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. Clinton said the United States will encourage the two countries to talk. Britain has opposed outside mediation.
"What we have requested is mediation as a friendly country of both Argentina and the United Kingdom," Fernandez said. She said Argentina wants those talks to take place within a framework established by the United Nations shortly after the Falklands Islands war of 1982.

Bummer, can’t you spare the time for a beer summit?
exactly. That is why the Argies want Zero to “mediate”. He is just looking for another chance to give the middle finger to the Brits again.
Just about as long as it took him to start selling the "Yanks" out!!!
What falkland islands are you talking about? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNDAQSpWdTw
From what I understand the majority of the people who live in the Falklands, don’t consider themselves Argentine.
Not sure this is 1982 anymore and while am pretty sure the UK could give it a good go, they are not what they were in the last war.
Not knocking them but without a Navy like they had back them and the fact that militarily Argentina could have won back then, I don’t think this dispute raises to the point of war.
And C (lol) have you seen the average Argentine 20-something woman, or better yet talked to them?
And fourth, Islam doesn’t have a stronghold in Argentina.
Seriously, don’t bust up the Argentine people based on a 28 year old perspective.
Post script..
They are not the people who live south of the border from us as I pretty much believe for the first 30 years of my life.
They are pretty much Caucasian, not that that matters here on FR, but just saying..
Argentine president-Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner
You can say that again.
The Argies are simply trying for a land grab since they think there’s oil off those islands. They were never Argentine territory and they’re basically saying, the people who live there can’t “unilaterally” decide that they don’t want to be Argentine. That’s like us saying well, Vancouver looked pretty good during the Olympics, it’s close, so let’s take it over.
The Brits don’t have the same capability they had but they do still have a fair amount of attack subs that can sink the entire Argie navy and mine their ports causing a lot of damage.
The Argies should try to push for a joint investment opportunity rather than a land grab. And yes, there are a lot of good looking Argie girls so maybe they should ship them in and marry them off to the Falklanders and try taking the islands over that way.
He already has.
The last time we allowed ourselves to be entangled in a European colonial thicket like this, we found ourselves fighting in Vietnam for over a decade.
I agree. I think it is a ploy to get part of the pie and that they would have owned they islands if they would have just sent some women over there in the 1980’s.
I don’t think either country would benefit from any fighting and monetarily,at a minimum I don’t think it would be worth it, much less loss of life.
About as long as it took you to type the question.
La Raza does!
La Raza can lick my sweaty balls. One day those delusional ‘tards will try to back up their rhetoric with deeds and on that day I grab my gun.
