McConnell: Republican candidates will call for repeal of health bill
The Hill ^ | 3/03/10 | Jordan Fabian -

Posted on 03/03/2010 5:25:00 PM PST by blueyon

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Wednesday that Republicans running in this fall's midterms will campaign on repealing the Democrats' healthcare reform bill should it pass.

McConnell held a press conference at the Capitol soon after President Barack Obama urged lawmakers to take a final "up-or-down vote" on the health bill, but did not use the word "reconciliation."

"I assure you that if somehow this bill is passed, it won't be behind our Democratic friends it will be ahead of them because every election this fall will be a referendum on this issue," McConnell said. "And there's an overwhelming likelihood that every Republican candidate will be campaigning to repeal it."

And the tea party’s make up .. what percentage of the American Voter?

I’d wager to say that Most of them are on on here, (FreeRepublic)

No my friend .. You have something that I lost a long time ago and that is .. Faith in my fellow man!

Once ‘Entitled’ Always ‘Entitled’ .. That’s the American motto now.

I am sure there is a creative way around that...just be more creative than the Democrats are on passing it.

Let me ask you .. Ever known of an “Entitlement” program that has ever been repealed?

This one is different. While the taxes start immediately, the entitlement portion won't start until 2014 at the earliest. Therefore, a 2011 repeal will occur before anyone sees a "benefit" under the program.

I understand there is no limit to the number of amendments to this steaming pile the GOP can propose and each one HAS to be considered.

I understand that as well...but in the meantime the Senate version of the bill will have been passed by the House, rubber stamped by the Senate as is, and gone to 0bozo the commie pig for signature. So in essence we will have the turd of the Senate being passed as law, and the Repubs will only be able to fight against the "reconciliation" amendments. Unless the House demoRATs somehow vote down this monstrosity (which I am not optimistic at all - 0boze, Pelouwsi & Reid will be flinging bribes & payoffs out like crazy), then there will be 0bamunist HealthDebacle bill of some sort. And that's what 0bozo the commie pig wants...something that he can declare victory on, no matter how horrible it is.

And the tea party’s make up .. what percentage of the American Voter?

The Tea Parties are currently polling higher than either the Republicans or the Democrats. That's political power right there. How do you think we managed to win NJ, VA and MA, when 0bama won all 3 states by big majorities just a year ago? If Republivans want to keep winning elections, they'd be advised to harken to the Tea Party demands, # 1 of which is: NO 0BAMACRE! That's the # 1 issue Scott Brown campaigned on, and won, even in true blue Massachusetts.

Again .. It comes down to votes and WHO will put these bastards Back in office.

In my Opinion .. The Tea Party members are sorely outnumbered!

The onloy numbers that counts is this: Without Tea Party voters, Republicans are not going to take control of the congress, not in 2010, not in 2012. The Tea Parties want 0bamacare to die, so 0bamacare dies when the Republicans take over in 2012. He who pays the piper, calls the tune.

Good luck getting past an Obama veto, Mr. Minority Leader.

Even after Obama is gone, and the GOP takes the Senate, 41 Dem Senators can block most any change. On the other hand, I think a simple majority in the House can strip funding for almost anything. I wish I knew more detail on this.

You are forgeting something. This entitlement doesn’t
take effect for a few years. While it may be true that
entitlements don’t go away, we don’t know one way or
the other if one yet to be put in place can or cannot
be neutered.

I think it would require 60 votes in the Senate to stop an unlimited number of amendments, and each would require a majority vote. As long as the red 41 hang together, they could push reconciliation to November by stalling.
