McConnell: Republican candidates will call for repeal of health bill
The Hill ^ | 3/03/10 | Jordan Fabian -

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Wednesday that Republicans running in this fall's midterms will campaign on repealing the Democrats' healthcare reform bill should it pass.

McConnell held a press conference at the Capitol soon after President Barack Obama urged lawmakers to take a final "up-or-down vote" on the health bill, but did not use the word "reconciliation."

"I assure you that if somehow this bill is passed, it won't be behind our Democratic friends it will be ahead of them because every election this fall will be a referendum on this issue," McConnell said. "And there's an overwhelming likelihood that every Republican candidate will be campaigning to repeal it."

If Republivans want to keep winning elections, they'd be advised to harken to the Tea Party demands, # 1 of which is: NO 0BAMACRE!

I agree with your point, but what, in your opinion, should they be doing that they are not doing? I think the GOP has been steadfast in opposition to Obamacare, as shown by the way they tore by Barry at the "summit" meeting. What else should they be doing now?

The GOP is doing everything it can as far as 0bamacare is concerned. I was replying to the other poster, who kept insisting that if 0bamacare is passed, it can never be repealed by another congress. I postulate, that 0bamcare can and will be revoked, if/when the GOP take over the White House and the congress in 2012.

Not enough! The “hold the line” strategy is just a static defense, and a static defense is “slow suicide”.

What the GOP must promise is NOT just to prevent this catastrophe, by repealing Obamacare, but to ROLL IT BACK!

They must tell the Democrats that if they try and force this bill through, the Republicans will not only repeal it ALL, but they will PRIVATIZE big parts of our health care system already controlled by the government!

This is not just playing defense, but playing offense as well. And the more the Democrats resist, the more the Republicans tear down the expensive and stupid edifice of government health care.

The Republican MUST tell this to the Democrats NOW. To let them know that if they even TRY to push through “reconciliation”, national health care in the US will be DONE. OVER. FINISHED.

And not just Obamacare, the Medicare and Social Security are going to be slowly torn down as well. And LOTS of government agencies will be SHUT DOWN, and lots of government employees FIRED.

And then, when it is done, the Republicans make their greatest of all threats: to Renounce the National Debt!

This will mean that the US government won’t be able to borrow money for 20-30 years from ANYONE. The federal budget will HAVE to be balanced. No more largesse. No more huge government boondoggle programs. And no more outsourcing, either. If Americans want it, they will have to make it here.

Which means they will need energy, and mining, and heavy industry again. And America will be rebuilt, even stronger.

This was very encouraging. Yes. I also like the that there is a new spending limit constitutional amendment beginning to be discussed.

“So where was McConnell when Bunning was singlehandedly standing for holding the Senate to its own paygo rules?”

Yeah Mitch, and why promise a battle later? Attack now! Get some Democrats to vote against it. Maybe some can be found to switch parties. Buy them off. This is WAR. Mitch, don’t retreat, fight NOW and fight hard! Don’t let this thing pass in reconcilation.

I know that you are and .. I am as well, a supporter of the Tea Party movement.

Let me ask you .. THE BIGGEST, MOST DESTRUCTIVE “Entitlement” law is coming next!

AMNESTY!

How much energy do you think that the Folks will have left in them after fighting THIS Health Care Bill?

I may be a conspiracy nut case but .. I believe that these bastards (Government) have planned on the everyday people getting tired of the Tea Party Movement after this .. too tired to fight the Big Amnesty bill that is coming!

Like a Magician does to distract .. I don’t believe that this Health Care bill is the REAL objective of these ‘bastards’ .. I believe that it is the AMNESTY bill that is coming!

Sure .. You Might repeal a bad health care bill but .. Think About It .. HOW do you Repeal the fact that people have been given CITIZENSHIP .. Once it’s passed?

Distraction is what I believe these Bastards are good at .. and I believe that they are engaging in it now!

I May be a Conspiracy Nut “BUT” .. I am looking at the Other Hand while everyone else is distracted!

Hope that I am wrong.

A presidential veto can be overridden.

Let me ask you .. Ever known of an “Entitlement” program that has ever been repealed?

Since the benefits are delayed for 4 or 5 years, it would be more like aborting obamacare and since most of the taxes and regulations are not delayed it will be like rolling back unwanted taxes, fees and regulations.

Amnesty will not even pass this year, not with 17% real unemployment. And after November, it won’t pass. Period.

This reminds me of the “balanced budget Amendment” speeches from way back when. Lots of pretty talk about how the budget needed to be balanced, but zero interest in actually getting an Amendment enacted after the election.

This will be more of the same. If this bill passes and becomes law, it will NEVER be repealed. Of course it’s unlikely that a repeal could garner the vote of 2/3 of both the House and Senate to override a veto. And let’s face it; once the GOP gets back into power, it will grow very comfortable with the idea of socialized medicine. Or more accurately, very comfortable with the idea of criticizing socialized medicine on the one hand, while eagerly feeding at the socialized medicine trough.

You know, I keep hearing that there’s a reason why major legislation has to pass by a super majority. There’s also a reason why to remove a president from office, there has to be a super majority in the Senate to vote him out. I think the Republicans should change the rules when they take over in November to remove the President by a simple majority and throw the bum out. We need to go one step beyond impeachment. Clinton was impeached but stayed in office. We couldn’t remove him because there was not enough votes in the Senate to do so. But we’ll just use a simple majority and that should do he trick.

While I’d love a 2/3 GOP Majority, I don’t see it...

No, once they are established there is not getting rid of them. However, we have a window of opportunity in the fact that the dims are taxing and preparing for it with the first signature, but the program does not kick in until 20/12 or 20/13. So, if we can take over the house or the Senate there is hope of killing it.

Once the GOP takes over the House and Senate in 2010 then the White House in 2012 they can repeal the whole thing with reconciliation if needed.

Just a simple question.

Comity my friend, or maybe Comedy who knows, they are all slime in any case.

Orin Hatch often said Ted Kennedy was his best friend. Left wing radicals can't be your best friend in a Republic.

While the taxes start immediately, the entitlement portion won't start until 2014 at the earliest.

Most of his supporters do not pay taxes, whether too poor or too rich, or too connected.
