LOS ANGELES -- Tourists are lining up for L.A.'s newest attraction; an up close and personal look at the Southland's famous gang neighborhoods.
"L.A. Gang Tours," which began operations in January, takes tourists to the streets that gave rise to the Crips, Bloods and other notorious gangs. L.A. Gang Tours, founded by a former self professed gang member, is already beginning to sell out.
"Here come those white MoFo's again!....Bust a cap in that bus!....
Like shooting fish in a barrel.
Why in the world would anyone want to go on this tour, just watch the nightly news. Go to most any WalMart or Mall and watch them pass by, with their pants on the ground.
I go to church in South Central. It’s really not that bad during the day.
Most of the gang activity happens at night when the G’s are awake.
Is this the L.A. Safari Land Tour I heard so much about?
No, thanks. Today I went to the bank in my small town. Out front was car with a black “Yute” at the wheel. The vilest rap music was blaring full-blast, car windows open. Those of us at the ATM had to endure a withering screech of rap with the F, S, B, and MF words screamed over and over again as the “artist” verbally raped and murdered “Hos.” People a block away were looking that way in wonder and disgust. No, thanks. Keep your “hood” far, far away from me. Nice touch, too, for race relations.
I guess I must be a little weird - because part of me thinks this would be kind of cool.
but I certainly wouldn’t plan a trip to SoCal with this tour really high on my agenda.

I used to work in East L.A. and concur on your opinion. Being from the east the place doesn’t look like the hood but rather looks like the Brady Bunch’s neighborhood. Just be sure to be out before nightfall. Very disorienting to an east coast guy. On the east coast there is no doubt that you are in the sh!t when you find yourself in the hood. Its a 24-hour thingy too. Be very careful about what highway exit you use around any major east coast city.
Personally, I would be a little more than pissed off at a bus load of people cruising down my street to check out the misery index....

At the Redbox in our local Wal-mart a bit before Thanksgiving, I was in line behind one of our young white youth with his pants hanging down. I stood behind him and snickered at him.
After awhile, he got visibly irritated at my looking at his pants and giggling, so he asked me politely “Is there anything wrong?” Now, I live in Utah and the youth here are just looking for attention, not making gang statements - at least that is my impression.
So, I asked him if he knew where the pants hanging on the down ‘fashion-trend’ came from and why?
He said “no, it’s just the fashion”.
I then explained that in prison, when a man wants some tender loving from another inmate, and he’s not to picky which one - he shows his willingness by walking around with his pants hanging down his waist, just like this kid was doing.
Then I asked him if that’s why he was cruising Walmart. He got quite red, embarassed, pulled his pants up, tightned hs belt and I’ve seen him in the store a couple of times since; he’s always had his pants pulled up and his shorts tucked in.
Sometimes, all it takes is to explain why and where a fashion trend started - and let them make the connection. I can say that word must have gotten around, because (at least here in my area north of Salt Lake) we don’t see as many kids with their pants hanging down nearly as often as we used to.
The Bus operators should mount a Gatling Gun at the back of the bus and charge an extra $ 50.00 for 50 rounds of ammunition, and 10 minutes at the gun.

....ain’t that the truth...I used to take a shortcut thru DC in the worst neighborhood in town...when I’d tell people about it they’d say “are you crazy?...you’re gonna get shot!”....but from 6:30 to about 10:30am the streets were deserted of young black men...then, as the day went on people would start stirring around....but first thing in the morning; all was quiet.
LOL. I am originally from Paterson, NJ. There was never any doubt when you were in the wrong neighborhood. Newark is also No-Man’s Land.
And if you go to the South Bronx, you’d better have a Yankees ticket.
These LA “ghettos” are lovely in comparison. Not that they aren’t bad neighborhoods, but they are not as sketchy 24/7.
I live in Long Beach now and really don’t have any reservations about going to the “bad” parts of town, even at night. Contrast that with downtown Paterson, where I will never go.
I have to admit I kind of like “grim tourism.”
I’d love to see Jonestown or the island of Molokai where Father Damien lived with the lepers.
I also have a heart for the Donner Party; I like to visit their memorial and museum.
And I really do enjoy visiting Civil War battlefields (so peaceful now, beautiful), the Holocaust museum, etc. . .
I’m pretty sure that BMG rounds are a bit more than a buck apiece, but the idea is good.
