A fundraising appeal posted on former Congressman J.D. Hayworth's Hayworth's campaign website today was the latest salvo in the increasingly contentious Republican Senate primary battle in Arizona between Hayworth and Senator John McCain.
The ad, which also appeared as the lead banner on the Drudge Report, depicts McCain in blue warpaint, in an apparent nod to Oscar-nominated film "Avatar."
Adjacent to the photo, McCain is mocked as "Nominee for Best Conservative Actor." Hayworth, running from McCain's right, has condemned the longtime senator as a "Republican in Name Only."

Very good and funny mail ad. From the squeeling, it sounds like it hit the target.
Yup!
I am outraged!
McCain isn’t remotely good at faking at being a conservative. Terribly transparent acting job.
Its amazing a guy who could manage only a weak chuckle at Obama’s insultingly backhanded dismissal in front of the entire nation at the phoney “health care summit” could only a week later be so mightily offended at an easily defensible campaign ad.
Nothing is more deadly to the campaign of a 72 year old man than a campaign staff who isn’t aware of the biggest money making movie of all time that is up for 9 academy awards in a few days.

This could be the beginning of a very bad spring for John McCain.
Mike Golic of ESPN tells this great story about going to a Phoenix Coyotes hockey game where John and Cindy McCain and family were sitting in the row in front of him. Not recognizing the Senator, he turned to Cindy and asked “So, do the kids enjoy coming to the games with their grandpa?”
Bet you McQueeg got a case of the purple shakes over that one!
McCain’s a reliable conservative 6 months out of every 6 years.
Adding a sombrero to the add might have helped... Avatarero ?
I really liked J.D. Hayworth, having said that, I think he needs to run a classy campaign as opposed to the typical democratic slam-fest. Scott Brown won without giving in to sleazy tactics, that made him even better (in my eyes). No matter how I feel about John Mccain, he is a war hero and he has made sacrifices for our country and our freedom abouve and beyond. He is due respect, he has earned it.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
McCain only gets mad when Repubs take a swipe at him.
Sort of reminds you of Democrats doesn’t it.
It appears as though the recent antics of Cindy and Meghan have got the old man in a foul and cranky mood. I don’t blame him. LOL!
LOL, I live in a madhouse.
Juan, that nice young fella that gave you the finger during the campaign, inferentially called Governor Palin a “pig” to crowd snickers, and who last week in front of cameras called you “John” and lectured you about campaigning-
that, Juan, is an outrageous insult, my friend

Oh no, now he's lost the Gibson vote too.
You should hear his attack ads on JD. He is not worthy of protection from any kind of ad, I say loose the dogs on him.

“No matter how I feel about John Mccain, he is a war hero and he has made sacrifices for our country and our freedom abouve and beyond. He is due respect, he has earned it.”
McCain deserves the same respect as Benedict Arnold. He was a war hero once too.
Did any American Indian tribe ever wear blue paint?
Avatar Ad: “Outrageous Offense to John McCain”
John McCain: Outrageous offense to conservatives everywhere.
Treason. Unfairly convicted on and reprimanded for two misdemeanor counts of dereliction of duty, Arnold was disgraced at the hands of men he blamed for corrupting the Revolution.
I looked up some history on Benedict Arnold. Like McCain, it’s more sad than anything. The way I see it, McCains daughter is doing more damage to him than anyone else ever could. Why not be above it?
I’m above it.
I’m not bovvered.
I’m above it.

Face.
Am I bovvered?
I’m above it.
I would just like to see them stand on the issues without ripping each other apart. Aren’t you sick of these types of campaigns? Besides, if we use this type of campaigning against the Dems they will eat us alive. No one can run dirtier than them. No one.
Arizona is not Massachusetts. They are much tougher out west. McCain is a pompous ass, and 160 pounds of dynamite with a short fuse. As for the war hero crap. We gave him his due, now do we have to keep playing that freaking game for the rest of his life?
As for the war hero crap. We gave him his due, now do we have to keep playing that freaking game for the rest of his life?
Why so bitter?
I never thought that I would see anyone on this site put the words “war hero” and “crap” together, for any reason.
I rather like this style of campaigning. The only ones I hear begging for it to stop are the pols that are dirty.
"The sting of criticism is the truth of it."

OK, crap was a bad word. Let’s use garbage instead. John McCain was a POW. Repeat POW. And if you read the seminal book “P.O.W.” very little was written about him, but much was made of others who are now long forgotten. Which reminds me, when General Jonathan Wainright returned from captivity he was met by MacArthur. Wainright, who was a walking stick-figure was ashamed, and felt that he had let his commander down. MacArthur embraced him and told him that his surrender was no disgrace. Wainright was a great man. He never sought the use of “hero”, and actually eschewed it. Now that was heoism.
Yes ~ makes more sense.
You’re wrong...while he is running,he should be respected for his actions as a politician.
Do you live in Arizona? Because the person running a dirty campaign — even before JD declared — was McCain... as to him being some sort of God because he was a POW, well... what about his efforts to stop the search for other MIA’s in Vietnam once he became senator?
I guess you guys are just looking at this politically, but try as I may, I just can’t. Maybe the issue is too personal for me to see it as stritly political. My husband is Air Force, My Dad a WWII Marine. I can’t help looking at McCain and thinking about my dad. He was injured in Okinawa and struggles with walking, but is still as tough as nails (to him pain is good, it means you are alive). I see how much he gave in the name of his country, and I can’t just put it aside.
Maybe you guys are right, but my opinion is obviously bias (I guess it always will be) :(
You never saw Josey Wales? ;-)

If you and I lived in Arizona, it would probably be easier to see McCain for what he is, instead of what he was.
His military record is honorable.
His senate record is another story.
This is a primary election, and the voters of Arizona deserve the best conservative they can elect. I really respect that.
“Why not be above it?”
That’s what keeps people like McCain in office. It hides the truth from the voters.
