It doesn’t say it was a high speed chase. And it sounds like it was on a lightly traveled country type road.

From the description of where it happened it could have happened in a small town similar to where I grew up. Lightly traveld roads, just a few cars an hour. Sensible drivers, who are used to dodging wide farm equipment, and who know how to drive.
Not city drivers, many of whom in my experence are too stupid to be on the road at all.

I grew up in a small town also, people died in car accidents there too.

Of course they did, but from the description here, and it is very imited, this doesn’t sound like the typical accident prone scenerio for rural drivers.
