Loose pit bulls should be immediately killed.

How many more mauling deaths is it going to take?

Apparently more than we have already. Maybe with much more severe criminal punishments for owners of dogs that injure people, owners would get the message that you can't let your dog terrorize the neighborhood. If you are a welfare loser with three pit bulls, then civil penalties aren't going to be much of a deterrent. Serious jail time - the same as if you committed the assault yourself - might.

Rob,

I train dogs for protection and SAR....

I use several breeds....

I will not use Pit Bulls, their prey instinct is too strong and once they commit it’s difficult to call them back. Plus, heck, they scare me......

BTW, the best breed IMHO is a German or Belgium Shepherd.

BTW, I hate the Wiener dogs...LOL, been bit 3 or 4 times by them..... but they’re a band aid repair...a Pit is a hospital stay.......

All the above stated, most (not all) of the attacks from Pit’s occur because of the way the dogs are raised, socialized and contained.....

You can make any dog behave badly through abuse and bad socialization. Certain dogs, like Pits, are more prone to end up an issue due to their inbred nature.

Rot’s were once branded that way but they are not like a Pit, Rot’s general nature is much calmer.....I use them for protection training have had several in my house with my kids but generally do not recommend them families with small children.

BTW, this is my passion not my real job.....

10-4 t that.
Dog owners will act like you shot one of their kids.
These type of people are primitive in nature. Keep your effing dogs home.
I killed one at the back door after two of them chased my wife into our kitchen. They came out of the woods after her. The local cops laughed at the dog’s owner.

I’ll type this again slowly so they will understand......keep your dogs home and off my property.

They are not the sweet, happy and friendly mutts you perceive them to be when off the reservation.

Stupid people.

I get a sense that a lot of pits are purchased as “bad ass” dogs

True, but I don't know if that's the case here. They haven't told who the owners are yet. Some years back a pit bull in Atlanta was attacking a child while the owner (a woman) was watching and doing nothing. A neighbor ran, got his .357 and shot the dog. The woman then attacked him screaming "Don't hurt my dog." He shot her too. Caught on video by another neighbor the owner was convicted of assaulting the guy who shot her. Sweet.

I agree, but here YOU will get convicted of "cruelty to animals" if you do this (and get caught). Maurading and nusance dogs are given special protected status in the USA due to the ceasless efforts of organizations like the ASPCA and PETA. You are simply not allowed to take the rational first step in protecting yourself and your family from dogs, whereas if you had a rattlesnake on your property (a much lesser threat, since they don't seek people to bite) no one would care if you shot it.

Prayers for the little girl.
Listening to ATL radio yesterday and the breed of the dog was NOT mentioned.
PC dog reports?
I am tired of hearing about people/children being maimed by these beasts. This story comes on the heels of what was it? 3 attacks a week or so ago in ATL?
In order for me to be able to defend myself, I have had to submit personal information to the GBI and FBI and allow the authorities to finger print me and keep a record. It cost me $40.
My S&W is not going to jump the backyard fence or break its holster, get loose and maim or kill my neighbor.
Possession of these canine-monsters should be considered for some manner of regulation.
Yeah, I know-—its not fair-—but its also not fair that I have been processed as a criminal and I do not have as much as a speeding ticket in my entire life.
Last weekend we were out scootering and a pitbull left its yard, came out onto the street surface barking and hackles up. I will not give any parts of my or my spouses body to a worthless POS, block-headed, beady-eyed mutt.
There are those who will defend them till they’re blue in the face. Save it. We’re sick of hearing it.

Nature, not nurture.

Dogs in this story should have been shot long ago.

A neighbor called 911, but not before the dogs severely wounded both of Ingram's arms.

Very similar to a story I posted here Ten-year-old Michigan Boy Loses Arm In Pit Bull Attack.
snip- "Neighbors in the area tell 24 Hour News 8 that they saw emergency crews at the same home earlier this summer because of the dog attacking another person in the home. Another neighbor, Doug Resman, says he even tried contacting law enforcement about the dog.
"They just said you have to wait until something else happens," said Resman."

Poor kids!
ANY dog that commits even one serious attack, should be put down.
If the parents had put the dog down after the first attack, their son would still have arm.

Mentioned this morning on the radio. Agree - prayers for the little girl and my she fully recover (and my the dirt bags who owned the dogs get some serious jail time and get hit financially for this too.) If I were a lawyer (god forbid) I'd get the parents to go after the county too, since the animal control was called on more than one occasion, and nothing was done.

Dogs in this story should have been shot long ago.

This county has skewed laws concerning America's sacred cows (dogs). If you shoot a real threat like loose dogs (any breed not just pit bulls, because as someone else said they are not the only ones that attack people - just the ones that do the most damage and attack the most frequently) YOU are the one that is going to be the criminal, not the owner who let the animal run loose.

Nobody.

Too bad.

I’ve lived out in country so long didn’t know you couldn’t just shoot a dog. Friend I live with now shoots at any dog on the property.

I don't know how you people who constantly defend this breed live with yourselves. In no small part it is you and the many people like you who bear the responsibility for this sort of stuff by trying to hide or deny the fact that there is a tendency for this breed to attack people. And then try to shout down a rational approach to the problem (ie banning the breed). Flame away head cases, but when you value a dog breed over human beings you show exactly what you are.

If you think breed-banning legislation is "rational," then it's obvious you're unfamiliar with reason.

And no one is defending the dangerous examples of these breeds.

Your slur is outlandish and hysterical.
