LITHONIA, Ga. -- An 8-year-old girl was attacked by two Staffordshire bull terriers in Lithonia Tuesday afternoon, DeKalb County police said.
The attack happened while the girl was playing in the yard of her home on Margaret Court.
CBS Atlanta spoke to the girls father on the phone Tuesday night. He identified her as Erin Ingram. He choked back tears as he said his daughter wasnt doing well.
I think that this is horrible, horrible, said neighbor Veronica Cook.
Cook and her son Kahlil Smoot couldn't believe Ingram was viciously attacked by two neighborhood dogs.
She's a sweet little girl, said Smoot.
Police say Ingram was playing in her yard when two dogs, which resemble pit bulls, attacked her. A neighbor called 911, but not before the dogs severely wounded both of Ingram's arms.
Three or four minutes being attacked by two vicious dogs can seem like eternity, said DeKalb County police Officer Jason Gagnon. Gagnon said the first responding officer had to physically pull the dogs off the girl. Then when one of the dogs lunged at the officer, he shot and killed the dog. The other dog ran away and was later captured.
Its a terrible thing to happen especially to a small kid that can't defend themselves, said neighbor Anita Jones.
Jones said she tried to capture the dogs on several occasions, and has called animal control about them.
They came in my yard and mauled my cat to death, said Jones.
Other neighbors say they've attacked them too.
Theyve chased children through the neighborhood. They're always roaming around through the neighborhood, said Cook.
Smoot said hes been afraid of the dogs because they've bit his ankles before. He has a message for his neighborhood friend.
I hope you feel better, said Smoot.
Police have talked to the owners of the dogs. They are still determining if any charges will be filed against them.
I'm waiting for the delusional* to come out of the woodwork and give one of their many excuses for this latest in an endless series of attacks on children
Those who repeatedly deny an external reality and live in a fantasy world are by definition delusional, but may not be clinically insane.
fyi
Cats rule, dogs drool
I get a sense that a lot of pits are purchased as “bad ass” dogs, and they are raised outdoors in rough conditions with minimal socialization to humans. Then people are shocked when the dogs live out the way they were raised.

The dogs were a known problem in the neighborhood. It’s too bad someone didn’t take the matter into their own hands before the girl was attacked.
You left out the part how breeds like chihuahuas, weiner dogs, malties, etc. etc. are responsible for most dog bites...
“Staffordshire bull terriers”
Sounds like such a nice breed of *timebombs* ur..... dogs.
Hot dogs, Armour hot dogs,
The dogs kids love to bite!
I agree. I hate pit bulls. They ought to be put down. The main reason is I see some urban thug with tattooes, piercings, slouchy pants and backwards hat walking their pit bull with spiked collars, looking stupid.
“You left out the part how breeds like chihuahuas, weiner dogs, malties, etc. etc. are responsible for most dog bites...”
...but not deaths...
Should have been shot by any neighbor long ago.
Or call the dog catcher, if it is killing other pets.
I blame global warming.
agreed. And I bet the breeders wern’t exactly the most reputable bunch either. You raise any big working dog like that and throw in bad genes you have a timebomb on your hands. Euthanize both dogs and give the owners jailtime or hell euthanize all of them if the litle girl dies.
The breed has become an ‘image’ breed, used by gangs, and thug wanna-bes to exude some false outward appearance of toughness. Such a shame.
A big dog like that wants a big yard to run around in, same as if it were a Great Dane or St. Bernard. It’s cruel to tie it to a short chain in a postage stamp sized piece of lawn and expect it to just wait there as an ornament at your beck and call.
I admit I hate most dogs. I have all my life for some reason. But wiener dogs crack me up! Just something about their demeanor. (And I don’t mind border collies either.)
I don’t blame the dogs at all or the breed per se. It’s BAD breeding and lack of proper care that made them do what they did. Not that they were evil. Even so if a dog like that attacks you need to put them down because if they’ve attacked once its very likely they’ll do it again.
