I just finished collecting the autographs of the 12 moonwalkers. Sadly it looks like those will be the only one’s in my lifetime.

Too much welfare to pay for now and the end of the Cold War raised a generation that doesn't see the national significance of such endeavor.

NASA is really busy right now helping the CIA watch the glaciers and the North Pole melt. Algore’s bank accounts depend upon NASA’s vigilence.

Well aren’t there several other countries with moon trips planned? Wouldn’t want the USA to be in the swim of things you know.

"I thought we'd have gone back long before now."

In college I had dreams of man setting foot on Mars. Maybe my grandchildren will see it, or my great granddaughter. In my grandfather's lifetimg we went form the Wright Brothers to the Moon. In my lifetime what? a people tracking network their cell phones tie into...

NASA is going to be too busy ‘sharing’ technology with and outreaching to ME countries to be bothered with going to the moon.

Not sure what technology we will receive in return but I’m sure hussein is protecting our interests.

NASA needs to do more outreach to the Muslims.

how about this...

since Americans obviously want to have NASA continue... yet congresscritters think not... why not put it to the test.

make a tax write off for any contributions to NASA by taxpayers. this would allow Americans to support the program, if they want to, and allow NASA chiefs to appeal directly to the people for funding, instead of wasting their time with half wits that wouldn’t be able to pass routine security screenings

“They haven’t thought through the consequences.”

Unfortunately they have. It is part of the plan to move the US from first to third world status. No different than the decision to dramatically reduce the number of weapons in the nuclear arsenal or the decision to explode the deficit.

Promising that the first person to set foot back on the moon will be a Muslim “person of color” should get the whole program back on track..

It should be obvious at this point to all rational people that the only reason we aren't returning to the moon is because we never went there in the first place. President Obama is deciding to end the farce.

As technology improves it should be easier to get to the moon yet we can't put a cohesive plan to do so. That can only mean that we staged the whole thing to begin with.

The space shuttle is a dismal failure as is the space station. Manned space flight was never meant to be. Let the Chinese waste their money on manned space flight.

Even simple aeronautics is a failure. We're still traveling at a top speed of around 600mph. The concord was a failure the greens saw to that. For what ever reason they have deemed supersonic flight as an enviro no no.

We're a pathetic bunch of weenies lets face it.

I hate Obama as much as anyone, but I fail to see the need or benefits of sending men back to the moon.

Eugene Cernan, the last man to set foot on the Moon ...

"They haven't thought through the consequences."

Yes, the consequences were thought through! This was done intentionally as another step toward Third-world America.

It’s entirely OK, it should be done privately as colonization of a new country. Then from there, to Mars and onward, in the spirit of the Founders. :-)

Weren't these the same guys who were denied entry into Iraq and Afghanistan, where they hoped to meet with the troops?

Sounds like retaliation to me.

Mr Obama cancelled Nasa's Constellation programme, which was intended to build new rockets and a lander to put astronauts back on the lunar surface by 2020, after stating it was costing too much and was behind schedule.

Even if Obama had funded it fully, is there anyone naive enough to believe that NASA would have a man back on the moon in 10 years for anything close to the budget proposed?
