State Sen. Abel Maldonado, the moderate Santa Maria Republican running for lieutenant governor, opened his speech to party convention delegates Saturday afternoon by acknowledging the discomfort many of them have with him for supporting new taxes, among other votes he has taken. When he walked into the room, he said, a delegate greeted him by saying, "Hey Abel, I think you're with the wrong party."
"And I looked at him, and I said, 'I'm not with the wrong party, I'm with the right party. Let me tell you why.' "
Maldonado, who spoke after the room had somewhat emptied following a speech by Senate candidate Carly Fiorina, retold an oft-told story about his father's journey from Mexico to the United States in 1963, penniless, and his success as a farmer thereafter. He used that tale to convey that Republicans need to better engage Latinos, saying their desire to get ahead is a more natural fit with the GOP, yet Latinos flock to the Democrats.
When his father arrived, he said, he picked a job line over a welfare line; had he picked welfare, he would have become a Democrat, Maldonado said, and he picked up the lesson. Maldonado recalled being asked by another Latino why he was a Republican. "You want to be poor?" he said he responded. "The other folks keep you poor."

right.
Hmmm more hypocritical ethnic BS. Whites are supposed to be droids and represent all yet Hispanics, blacks and everyone else is supposed to embrace their ethnicity.
This will not end well for this nation in fact it will end the nation as we become more splintered and fractured. We are hurtling towards Bosnia...on steroids.
Damn straight. We're serving apple pie and we expect them to sign up.
Best to come to this forum prepared. Here are some details that might help lessen your embarrassment :
1) Whites (European Caucasians) and Asians are the fastest growing demographics in California.
2) Hispanics top Asians because of illegal immigration, principally from Mexico.
3) The influence of Catholicism nudges Mexico's Hispanics toward conservatism.
4) US culture, not native culture, tends immigrants toward socialism.
Next time, do the homework and then contribute.
The Irish still trend Democrat though.
Listen clown, I am prepared. I see (along with a number of other people) the demographics do not favor whites in any stretch of the imagination.
Additionally, I never did say that US culture doesn’t play a part in indoctrinating immigrants towards socialism. It most certainly does.
My line of thinking is that instead of shooting out a load of verbal diarrhea by saying “...do the homework and then contribute”, use a little practicality and decency in trying to educate those of us who are allegedly less intelligent and prepared as you are.
You’ll go further in life.
Suggesting a course in cultural anthropology would probably fall on deaf ears. Suggesting investigation of the terms race, culture and the recently termed liberal speaks; ethnicity and Latino would also promptly be rejected. I'm guessing a lot more comfort in the liberal web of ignorance.
No, your point was made.
That point being that you’re a condescending ass. You didn’t have to work too hard to prove that.
Thank you.
Next time, leave the vitriol and ignorance at home, do the research before contributing and improve the quality and the image of this forum. There is small gain in the advancement of conservatism through ignorance and/or cultural bigotry.
