Obama's happiness deficit (big whiner, ends mtgs early for BB)
Washington Post ^ | March 15 | Fred Hiatt

Posted on 03/16/2010 5:33:00 AM PDT by PghBaldy

Here's a theory about why President Obama is having a tough political time right now: He doesn't seem all that happy being president.

...I started thinking about this a few weeks ago when Obama confidant David Axelrod, noting that the president always makes time for his daughters' recitals and soccer games, told the New York Times, "I think that's part of how he sustains himself through all this."

Really? Is the presidency something to sustain yourself through? He did ask for this job; we didn't make him take it. And so it seems fair to ask: What part of it does he enjoy? Formulating rational solutions to complex problems, for sure...

Does the Washington Post have any writers who have more then one brain cell?

Actually, I think there is only one brain cell, that they share between the lot of them.

From what I’ve read, BO has never been happy when working. He got a job, wasn’t happy with it and quickly moved on to another job where he repeated the cycle.

Guess he figures now he can retire early & play basketball all day.

Awww...he’s not happy? Good! Does that mean he won’t be seeking a second term? Maybe he could just quit now and turn it over to Biden!! Biden would be a massive improvement, not to mention a heck of a lot of fun to watch.

.....I’ll say he asked for the job.....

Alternatively and even likely, he is but a pawn, a synthetic creation that took years to develop into an electable entity. What is becoming viable are the strings that allow him to act.

He was told to take the job

Yes and no.

Obama excelled in EVERY case. But not at hard reality. At two aspects of pre-2010 era success. (1) Getting to the front of the Social Promotion line. (2) The politics of ‘looking good’ and appearing to be a serious man.

Even his ‘slacker’ nature is truly American. We honor the Tom Sawyer of Mark Twain’s legend for his ability to get others to do the hard work in a crafty way. We remember Ronald Reagan’s naps and time at his ranch — because we knew by that that he was delegating well. The same applied to GWB, when he did his best did so because he surrounded himself with men and women of character who did get things done.

In fact, that gifted slackerism might be the most American thing about Obama.

In the realm of those who market fraud, successes based on reality can actually be burdens. Why? To build on lies, start with a foundation of lies. Throwing in an honest success can be the buried hard breaking rock of a pointed anvil that breaks the near completed castle of fantasy.

It may well be that OBAMA’S GREATEST STRENGTH IS THAT HE IS A TOTAL FRAUD WITH NOT ONE PART of his life or career real.

What part of it does he enjoy?

.....Pontificating in the limelight and the money flow for decades to come.

The media is to blame delkiberately crafting an illusion that a backbencher state legislator and then recent U.S. Senator was a real leader of any kind. Zero is not running this show. He only collects his paycheck.

I also want to remark on the ‘floating from one job to another’ aspect of your lament.

In the times where society doesn’t mollycoddle folks, where there is not a huge social stratification of careers and economic mobility it is not uncommon at all to find GREAT MEAN whose career has ‘floated from one job to another’, even failing in most of them.

I will mention a few — Abraham Lincoln. Ulysses S. Grant. Harry S Truman. George Washington — by the 24th of December 1776 was considered a failed general by nearly all observers at the time, a man who had been promoted beyond his capabilities.

Yeah - and Biden gets us one step closer to “President Pelosi.” Not a pleasant thought...

I agree. I said exactly the same thing on another message board that I frequent the day after the election and was roundly criticized. Wonder if they think that way now?

He is too weak a leader to stand up against “Prime Minister” Pelosi, cavorts with enemies, trashes allies, etc., etc. Epic failure after one year...we need to impeach his incompetent self, I can’t take 3 more years of this kind of damage infliction.

True, true.

But I would venture that in great men who failed before becoming great, there must have been some attribute greatness and great character lurking in the background just waiting to be called upon.

When I look at Obama, all I see is immaturity and narcissism.

I wonder who really is running the show. I can’t see Pelosi or Reid being the powers behind obama.

It’s the first time anybody has really expected him to show up and do something, and it’s very tiring to him.

That’s why I felt to was necessary to extend your observation about Obama — in another way of looking at it he has climbed a ladder of success. The ladder of the great con man.

Yep. As lazy as he is, he is an accomplished con man.

I wonder if he is sufficiently introspective to be aware of it.

My take on this ... he’s an affirmative action president, thrust forward by events he certainly embraced and now finds himself in a situation he is little suited for ... essentially someone who is well beyond his level of competency.

Isn’t that the Peter Principle? Promoted beyond one’s abilities?
