Hawaii considers ban on requests for Obama's birth certificate
London Telegraph (U.K.) ^ | March 16, 2010

Hawaii may start ignoring repeated requests for proof that President Barack Obama was born on the islands.

Repeated requests to see President Barack Obama's birth certificate may fall on deaf ears after the House Judiciary Committee heard a bill permitting government officials to ignore people who won't give up.

So-called "birthers" claim Mr Obama is ineligible to be president because, they argue, he was actually born outside the United States, and therefore doesn't meet a constitutional requirement for being president.

"Sometimes we may be dealing with a cohort of people who believe lack of evidence is evidence of a conspiracy," said Lorrin Kim, from the Hawaii Department of Health.

Under Hawaii state law, the release of a birth certificate is prohibited for people who do not have a tangible interest.

Hawaii Health Director Dr Chiyome Fukino issued statements last year and in October 2008 saying that she had seen vital records that prove Mr Obama is a natural-born American citizen.

Mr Obama was born to a Kenyan father and an American mother.

But the state still gets between 10 and 20 emails seeking verification of Obama's birth each week, most of them from outside Hawaii.

Both Dr Fukino and the state registrar of vital statistics have verified that the Health Department holds Obama's original birth certificate.

Republican Cynthia Thielen said: "Do we really want to be known internationally as the legislature that blocked any inquiries into where President Obama was born?

"When people want to get more information, the way to fuel that fire is to say, 'We're now going to draw down a veil of secrecy."'

Nobody at the hearing questioned the fact that the president was born in Hawaii.

If the measure is passed, the state Office of Information Practices could declare an individual a "vexatious requester" and

I just don’t see them challenging anything that involves Obama. They haven’t done it yet, and this Hawaii business has been going on for years. I, too, believe it is unconstitutional, but I still think they will turn their backs on this.

I agree up to a point. When states start changing their laws like this, it’s going to be very hard for the ACLU to ignore.

Isn't this an admission of sorts?

He never has produced a baptism certificate nor has he bothered to mark any of the traditional Christian holy days.

He doesn't have to. We know he was born to a muslim and his mother married a second muslim who then listed Obama as a muslim in school records in Indonesia. Obama never had any family connection to Christianity until he would have returned to Hawaii at age 10 or 11 ... and even then, we don't know for sure. Obama's strongest connection to Christianity was joining Rev. Wright's church in Chicago, but he only did that to get street credibility with the African-American community. He has no genuine attachment to Christianity. He got flustered by little kids asking about Jesus when he visited a Boys and Girls Club at Christmas. He's a fake.

Absolutely. They realize they’ve never authenticated Obama’s alleged COLB and that they’re needlessly hiding the original birth certificate when it could legally be released under the Uniform Information Practices Act.

Why should the state of Hawaii protect 0bama?

Why do some states get more in federal money than others?

3) Where in the Constitution does it say "natural-born American citizen? That must be a new animal because all I recall is native, naturalized, and natural born citizen.

No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

Are you suggesting that, in this context, it is not absolutely clear that a natural born Citizen of the United States is meant? Are you implying that the cited passages requires only that one be a natural born citizen of SOME country? That's ridiculous!

Regards,

Amazing how many come to eligibility threads as if it's something brand new. As has been discussed dozens of times, there is no such thing as a "natural-born American citizen." It's legalese that means nothing.

Technically it's a misnomer, since it should say natural born U.S. citizen. There aren't American citizens, just U.S. citizens.

She drew a LEGAL CONCLUSION. She needs to back up the assertion.

Bureaucratically cutting off the requesters is simply a matter of protecting the Kenyan - and perhaps their own health.

No, you’re not the only one freaking out — I’ve been that way since before the election.Once you accept that he is the personification of evil, the things he does and says are so predictable that one can’t be upset.
