The GOP health care count: 209 no, 204 yes, 18 undecided
Washington Examiner ^ | Mar. 17, 2010 | Byron York

Posted on 03/17/2010 1:52:54 PM PDT by Al B.

There are two ways to count votes for the Democrats' national health care plan. The first is to tally the lawmakers who are definitely yes or leaning yes. The second is to count the ones who are definitely no and leaning no.

From the Republican side, it's the second group that matters. Just like Democrats need 216 votes to pass the bill, Republicans and their Democratic allies need 216 to stop it. I just got off the phone with a well-placed House GOP source, and the Republicans' latest count is that there are 209 votes against the bill at this moment, leaving opponents seven short of being able to defeat it. By the same count, there are 204 votes for the bill, leaving the Democratic leadership 12 short of being able to pass it. There are 18 votes thought to be undecided.

[...]

Another thing Republicans are doing is keeping tabs on the pressure groups on the left. In particular, GOP staffers are watching the whip count done at the lefty website Firedoglake. (The most recent count there is 205 yes, 209 no, very close to the GOP tally.) Republicans feel it is accurate, particularly in this sense: They believe that no Democratic lawmaker who is definitely planning to vote yes on the bill would want the activists on the left, in this case exemplified by Firedoglake, to believe he or she is still undecided. Why take a beating for nothing?

They WILL vote yes. They are just holding out for more pie.

He's a bigger cynic than I am. And that takes some doing.

Of course, the reason they haven't had a vote yet is because Nancy's "friends" haven't had time to ... um .... "persuade" those pesky holdout Dems to vote in favor -

The Republicans ought to offer some refuge for Demon-rats who do the right thing.

Agreed, promise not to campaign on healthcare if they vote no this time, no matter what they did before.

...and here’s the 3-2 pitch.

"It's bunted down the third base line! The suicide squeeze is on.
Here he comes...squeeze play. It's gonna be close.
Here's the throw...here's the play at the plate!
Holy cow, I think he's gonna make it!"

Too bad Rep. Dennis K. moved into the pro Obamacare column. I had expected him to oppose it.

Oh, it is going to pass - legally or extralegally doesn't matter - it IS going to happen... and present company excepted, the population deserves it. Anyone who had hopes that this could be defeated "peacefully" has been holding onto a delusion. The Democrat party has radicalized like Islam: the last moderates are being culled and the most fanatic among them have become the new standard. The ones left standing will be okay with enslaving us or killing us, and you have their own word on that.

I think we will all be surprised when we find out which of the formerly tough-talkers among us will turn "dhimmi."

Am I cynical for already giving up? Every time everyone is like “WE ARE SO CLOSE!” “If we can just persuade a few more Democrats to switch!” and then it falls flat on its ass as those dems run back to the party line.

If you are a constituent of one of the 18 undecideds, tell them you want them to be the deciding vote in the House, just like Brown was in MA.

There is a reason Coakley lost in MA. Sen. Scott BROWN said he would be the 41st vote against Obamacare. MA citizens don’t like the govt. health care.

Here’s why (from Cato):

“Health-care costs continue to rise much faster in Massachusetts than in the nation as a whole.snip

New regulation and bureaucracy are limiting consumer choice snip

The wait for seeing an internist, for example, has nearly doubled since the reforms were implemented. snip

Let us hope that Congress learns from the failure of the Massachusetts experiment.

Call and remind all those uncertain that a free nation is a strong nation. Socialism will kill the Country!!!

Don’t let them evade, and ask them to commit to NO, and not be an “Only Yes if necessary” stooge.

Note to our legislators, (which you may copy and send)

PLEASE VOTE AGAINST this insane health care bill. It is over 2,400 pages long and I can not in good conscience pay for those who choose to have their pre-born babies killed via abortion.

It flies in the face of my faith and my belief in the significance of our responsibility to PROTECT HUMAN LIFE and liberty. In addition, I do not believe it is constitutional for the Govt. to require anyone to buy public health care. There are MANY PEOPLE WHO CAN’T AFFORD IT and MOST AMERICANS DON’T WANT IT!

Those who support this bill will effectively end their political careers doing so, because it’s being orchestrated using back room and one on one deals, with legislators who have never read it and don’t intend to sign it.

The unconstitutional tactics being used reflect VERY POORLY on this administration and anyone who supports this bill.

PLEASE, stand with the American people by voting AGAINST THIS BILL, for the sake of life and liberty, as well as for the well being of your political career.

KILL THE BILL!

CODE RED Contact list http://www.nrcc.org/CodeRed/targets/

Remember they are all being offered BRIBES for their votes. Ask them how much their bribe price is.
The National Republican Congressional Committee has published a target list on health care. In addition to continuing to contact the five Tennessee Democrat Congressmen, you can go http://www.votervoice.net/link/clickthrough/ext/94697.aspx to contact some of these targets. Much of the talk following Obama’s announcement has focused on how to defeat this second bill through reconciliation, but that is misleading because the first step to defeating Obamacare is not by concentrating on defeating the “fixer” bill but by defeating the Senate bill in the House when it goes to the floor for an up-or-down vote on Thursday, March 18th.

Congressional Dems on Twitter

And here are toll-free numbers we can use to call any Senators or Reps.

At the first number below you must wait through a tape recording urging you to tell your Rep or Senator to vote “yes” for the health care bill. Just hang on and when the recording is over, you will get the Capitol operator. Just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office. Then you will either talk to an aid or have the chance to leave a message for him/her to vote NO on the health care bill.

When you use the second number and the Capitol operator comes on, just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office. Every time I use this number I get the Rep or Senator’s answer machine, so it may be set up that way all the time...to go to their answer machine. Either way you can leave a message to vote NO on the health care bill!

We need to use these toll free numbers that have been set up for the health care/ BO supporters and illegals to use! After all they are FREE!
