Fess Parker -- who played Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone -- has died of natural causes ... a rep confirms with TMZ.
Parker -- who also starred in "Old Yeller" -- owned the DoubleTree Resort in Santa Barbara and the Wine Country Inn & Spa in Los Olivos, CA.
Parker married Marcella Rinehart in 1960. They had two kids.
He was 85.

Fess Parker was definitely my hero too. Along with Roy Rodgers. I admit I got a one-sided view of frontier history, but it was just great for a kid. Kids need heroes.
Part of my childhood has died with the passing of Fess Parker.
I was a big Fess Parker fan growing up. Watching the Daniel Boone series as a kid inspired me to want a real flintlock rifle. Right now I have three of them.

15. I knew Fess and he was a great guy. I don’t think I ever heard him say an unknind word about anyone he worked with. Having spent 20 years in the business I can say that’s a rarity. He was always patient and gracious with his fans, and great to spend time with.

You can always tell the level of nastiness and illiteracy by the age of the commenters....those of us who grew up with Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone saw some morals and manners portrayed that it is good to emulate...while other retards grew up watching Beavis and Butthead and never got their minds out of the sewer. They denigrate anyone with standards, brains and morals because they are completely lacking in those qualities. Sad for the world!!! Had it coming, you are a complete waste of air and space. Go back to the dump you live in.

20. I worked for Mr. Parker for 4 years in Santa Barbara, and I can tell you he was one of the nicest men. His kids and his grandkids loved him and I’m sure he’ll be missed. RIP Fess...we’ll miss you and your kind smile...

23. When Davey Crockett movie opened in Dallas, Fess made person appearance. The line for the movie went around the block . His car pulled up. When he got out in buckskins, he was the biggest man I had ever seen. All my friends had coon skin caps and Old Betsy rifles. H e was a huge influence on all us kids at the time. Real hero.

RTN apparently owns some rights to it, so maybe you could ask them to put it on in your area. They’ve been running it for some time here and in a prety favored time slot, so it must be popular.
I think I was 7 years old when I discovered that it didn't say "killed in a bar when he was only 3." LOL
I also remember the last episode; he was the last man standing at the Alamo. Brought tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat when I watched it.

The two TV series were great. I remember the two movies he made..”Old Yeller”, and my personal favorite..”The Great Locomotive Chase” Of course, back then, Disney wasn’t what it is now, either..
I knew he had made a big name for himself as a vintner, I didn’t know he had a hotel until I did a search on him.
“The Great Locomotive” chase was one of my favorite books and movies growing up. I wonder if it’s available on DVD.
