It's a Civil War: What We Do Now
Townhall.com ^ | March 23, 2010 | Dennis Prager

Posted on 03/23/2010 4:56:20 AM PDT by Kaslin

A terrible thing happened to America on Sunday, March 21, 2010.

The country took its biggest step ever down a road diametrically opposed to its original intent of keeping the state small so that the individual can be free and great.

Therefore, in this unprecedented crisis of values, this is what needs to be done:

1. Know and teach America's core values.

We got to this point solely because over the past few generations, Americans have forgotten the values that have made America distinctive and great. Even the "Greatest Generation" failed to communicate them.

In a nutshell, they are what I call the American Trinity: "In God we trust," "Liberty" and "E Pluribus Unum." The left has successfully made war on all three -- substituting secularism for God and religion in as much of American life as possible; substituting equality (of result) for liberty; and multiculturalism is the opposite of "E Pluribus Unum."

People who do not understand American ideals -- especially small government -- now dominate our schools, our entertainment media and our news media.

(My own contribution here is a video titled, "The American Trinity" at prageru.com. Please view it and forward it.)

2. Recognize that we are fighting the left, not liberals.

Conservatives and centrists are no longer fighting liberals. We are fighting the left.

Liberalism believed in American exceptionalism; the left not only does not believe in it, the left opposes it. President Obama, when asked if he believes in American exceptionalism, replied, "I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism, and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism."

Liberalism believed in creating wealth; the left is interested in redistributing it.

Liberalism believed in a strong defense. The left believes in cutting defense and a strong United Nations.

3. Democrats should be referred to as Social Democrats. This is not meant to be cute, let alone as a slur. But calling Democrats Social Democrats is an effective way of reminding Americans that there is no longer any difference between what is now known as the Democratic Party and the Social Democratic parties of Europe. When the Democratic Party returns to its roots as a liberal, not a left-wing, party, we will happily resume calling the party by its original name. However, since no Democrat can cite a significant difference between the Democratic Party and the SD parties, there is no good reason not to use the more accurate nomenclature.

4. Work tirelessly to repeal the bill.

We must single-mindedly work to repeal the government health plan. We all know that it is difficult to repeal entitlements because they are like drugs and it is very difficult to wean people off drugs. But it is not impossible. We need to warn our fellow Americans that entitlements will do to America what drugs eventually do to addicts.

All Republicans must run for office on the "repeal" issue. Even when they lose, the difference between right and left, between Republicans and Social Democrats will have been made clear; and clarity is our best friend.

5. Our motto: "The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen."

I used this phrase in addressing the Republican members of Congress. It has become widely used, including by Rep. David Dreier, R-Calif., on the House floor during the Congressional debate on Sunday. It encapsulates this epic battle of American values versus leftist values. Every movement needs a motto. I nominate this.

6. Do not let other matters distract.

Neither Republicans nor conservatives are united on every issue facing America. Immigration is one example. But we are united on the big government vs. free individual issue, which, more than anything else, has defined America. If we allow any other domestic issue to divide us, we will lose.

And here's why: If Americans forget what America stands for, it won't help us if there is not one illegal immigrant here. And if we do remember what it means to be American, we can handle anything.

7. Acknowledge that we are in a non-violent civil war.

I write the words "civil war" with an ache in my heart. But we are in one.

Thank God this civil war is non-violent. But the fact is that the left and the rest of the country share almost no values. The American value system and the leftist value system are irreconcilable. If the left wins, America's values lose. If American values prevail, the left loses.

After Sunday's vote, for the first time in American history, one could no longer confidently believe that the American system will prevail. And if we don't fight for it, we don't deserve it.

We need to take seniors and baby boomers and almost literally shake them. If we do not get the House and Senate back in Nov - we will not defund this thing and gut it.

If that happens - seniors and baby boomers are screwed for the rest of their life. It is over - period.

There is $12 trillion in retirement savings and they WILL come after it for reparations and “social justice.” This is what this “health bill” is about.

Prager is right! My post yesterday stated:

People!!!

The key to defeating the tyranny that is seated in the Congress, Senate, and Executive of the United States is for "We, the People" to get a quick and thorough understanding of the principles underlying our own Constitution's provisions and protections.

Nothing else will do! Talk won't suffice. Arguments against this or that bill or effort in the Congress or by the Executive Branch won't do.

Understanding and articulating the underlying principles and then coordinating efforts to defeat violations of those principles is the beginning of a return to what Jefferson called the "only path to peace, liberty, and safety."

Fortunately, there are many sites providing quick and easy access to the necessary information. The Liberty Fund has a library which contains original documents, speeches, and writings. One Congressional Candidate has a web site which is a marvelous resource for literally hundreds of documents, books, e-books, and original writings. It is here. Then, there is Mark Levin's "Liberty and Tyranny," and Stedman & Lewis's "Our Ageless Constitution." That 292-page book is a treasury of information and documents, including 25 illustrated and easy-to-read essays, each page explaining a principle underlying the Constitution. These may be used for learning and teaching the ideas, using the Founders' own words.

The tyrants who now control Washington are not intellectually equipped to combat the geniuses who formed and framed the United States Constitution. They think they are smart, intellectual, and "progressive." The truth is they are only petty tyrants, pseudointellectuals, and get by with their actions only because America's citizens have not been taught the ideas of liberty. When confronted with those ideas, the counterfeit and "regressive" ideas of the Clintons, Obamas, Reids, Pelosis, and all the others can and will be exposed.

“when CWII starts Keyboard Courage will not count for very much when the lead flies...”

That’s true, but no man knows how he will perform until there’s lead in the air.

We should encourage each other; not disparage each other’s courage, as some do.

Well, this is one of the main reasons.

I have been saying since the last election that I wouldn’t be surprised if martial law were declared before November

Declaring it, and making it stick are two different things.

Violence would give the left the "crises" it needs to disarm the people , confiscate property, imprison the disobedient, remove children from their homes....etc.
That's why the left is being so arrogant right now. They're pushing their communist agenda hard and at the same time hoping the American people will go over the edge because of it. "Never waste a good crises."

They want violence. Don't give it to them. Instead, Go Gandhi. We'll get more bees to follow us with honey than we would get with vinegar.

We are likely to see an excuse to invoke a ‘disaster’ with all the other issues that will follow.

The entire school staff is turning conservative here. We ran off one extremely liberal lesbian when our daughter was in school. That was the start and a lot of parents got involved with the PTA and other school activities.

The left is building a cage.
Within the next couple of years, there will be two earth quakes (Alaska? Washington state? Somewhere around there will be one. I don't see where the other will be yet). They will be in places we least expect, and the people will not be prepared. This will bring us to the end of our great experimnent if the present isn't divinely changed now.
Violence will only empower the left. Avoid it.
That's what I see coming, anyway. The future is not yet set in stone, but it's close.

Dennis, you are fooling yourself if you think this “Civil War” will be nonviolent.

The only reason for a lack of bloodshed at this point is the child emperor hasn’t left his fortress and is still making royal decrees while hiding behind the backs of his imperial guard.

That won’t last.

Then the communist slime in the US congress voted to cut off aid to South Vietnam.

That is the point. The tactics used by the hippies and amplified by the media changed the course of history (for the worse). You need to read the entire exchange.

The problem is that revolutions like babies arrive when THEY want to not when the pundits or parents want...The point is that the basement is filled with natural gas while Congress keeps dumping gasoline on the floor

I can not say what the spark will be but there are a multitude of them...a sudden price spike/supply cut in gas, a not guilty verdict on any of those 911/alqaeda terrorists, a state finally growing a pair of stones and taking the X Amendment to heart and inviting DC to "do something about it"...or some unknown citizen like the Crispus Attacus of our times catching an unintended federal bullet but ending up as a symbol and a cause celeb that brings the whole rotten house of cards down...

Ghandi did it without firing a shot. So did Reagan. Both walked in the truth, and both won the battle.

Democrats should be referred to as Social Democrats.

I think that's an excellent idea.

Dennis Prager: "Democrats should be referred to as Social Democrats."

A problem fully defined is half solved. Mr. Prager is reaching, but can't seem to get to the right label.

Until people fully recognize and resist the blatant communist character of this regime, it will continue to gobble up the wealth and liberty of American citizens.

Keep playing footsie with the alligators and see what happens ...

They want violence.

Nonsense. They only want violence if they are the only ones dishing it out.

Do you think they LIKE moslems?

Don't give it to them. Instead, Go Gandhi.

I strongly suggest you find out WHY Gandhi used that tactic before you recommend it to others.

As Dinesh D'Sousa wrote in "What's So Great About America"...If India had been a colony of Germany, Gandhi would be a lampshade.
