It's a Civil War: What We Do Now
Townhall.com ^ | March 23, 2010 | Dennis Prager

Posted on 03/23/2010 4:56:20 AM PDT by Kaslin

A terrible thing happened to America on Sunday, March 21, 2010.

The country took its biggest step ever down a road diametrically opposed to its original intent of keeping the state small so that the individual can be free and great.

Therefore, in this unprecedented crisis of values, this is what needs to be done:

1. Know and teach America's core values.

We got to this point solely because over the past few generations, Americans have forgotten the values that have made America distinctive and great. Even the "Greatest Generation" failed to communicate them.

In a nutshell, they are what I call the American Trinity: "In God we trust," "Liberty" and "E Pluribus Unum." The left has successfully made war on all three -- substituting secularism for God and religion in as much of American life as possible; substituting equality (of result) for liberty; and multiculturalism is the opposite of "E Pluribus Unum."

People who do not understand American ideals -- especially small government -- now dominate our schools, our entertainment media and our news media.

(My own contribution here is a video titled, "The American Trinity" at prageru.com. Please view it and forward it.)

2. Recognize that we are fighting the left, not liberals.

Conservatives and centrists are no longer fighting liberals. We are fighting the left.

Liberalism believed in American exceptionalism; the left not only does not believe in it, the left opposes it. President Obama, when asked if he believes in American exceptionalism, replied, "I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism, and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism."

Liberalism believed in creating wealth; the left is interested in redistributing it.

Liberalism believed in a strong defense. The left believes in cutting defense and a strong United Nations.

3. Democrats should be referred to as Social Democrats. This is not meant to be cute, let alone as a slur. But calling Democrats Social Democrats is an effective way of reminding Americans that there is no longer any difference between what is now known as the Democratic Party and the Social Democratic parties of Europe. When the Democratic Party returns to its roots as a liberal, not a left-wing, party, we will happily resume calling the party by its original name. However, since no Democrat can cite a significant difference between the Democratic Party and the SD parties, there is no good reason not to use the more accurate nomenclature.

4. Work tirelessly to repeal the bill.

We must single-mindedly work to repeal the government health plan. We all know that it is difficult to repeal entitlements because they are like drugs and it is very difficult to wean people off drugs. But it is not impossible. We need to warn our fellow Americans that entitlements will do to America what drugs eventually do to addicts.

All Republicans must run for office on the "repeal" issue. Even when they lose, the difference between right and left, between Republicans and Social Democrats will have been made clear; and clarity is our best friend.

5. Our motto: "The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen."

I used this phrase in addressing the Republican members of Congress. It has become widely used, including by Rep. David Dreier, R-Calif., on the House floor during the Congressional debate on Sunday. It encapsulates this epic battle of American values versus leftist values. Every movement needs a motto. I nominate this.

6. Do not let other matters distract.

Neither Republicans nor conservatives are united on every issue facing America. Immigration is one example. But we are united on the big government vs. free individual issue, which, more than anything else, has defined America. If we allow any other domestic issue to divide us, we will lose.

And here's why: If Americans forget what America stands for, it won't help us if there is not one illegal immigrant here. And if we do remember what it means to be American, we can handle anything.

7. Acknowledge that we are in a non-violent civil war.

I write the words "civil war" with an ache in my heart. But we are in one.

Thank God this civil war is non-violent. But the fact is that the left and the rest of the country share almost no values. The American value system and the leftist value system are irreconcilable. If the left wins, America's values lose. If American values prevail, the left loses.

After Sunday's vote, for the first time in American history, one could no longer confidently believe that the American system will prevail. And if we don't fight for it, we don't deserve it.

Oath Keepers is only for one class of people. I am not part of that class, so it's not an organization for me of many (most) other people here. (And, in advance let me tell you I am not going to join some organization of which I will only be a junior member, either. I stand beneath no man in my dedication to righting our society.)

Other than that, it's a great organization. But it's for other people, not for most of us.

What is needed is not exclusively the responsibility of people who have worked in some specific capacity in the past, no matter how valiant that role is.

Read this thread. Some of the Chair-bound Warriors here are ready to go to battle - over a bill that could just as easily be overturned in a year or less! - and I don't think that they realize what they're asking for.

I *like* my life simple, comfortable, and uncomplicated.

I say that it's important to be prepared (I am, to the point that Mrs WBill sometimes thinks is silly). And, I say that there is a time for violence. I just don't think that time is here yet.

When it's here, we'll know it, and we'll still be woefully unprepared for its effects. Are you willing to give up everything that you've worked for, for all of your life? Your job, your house, your money, all of your possessions? Put your family in danger? Lose friends and family? Your children? Over a bunch of damn fool politicians, that may (likely, in fact) very well be voted out in a couple of months?

I'm not. I'm still hoping that an attack of sanity breaks out. If it doesn't - if things get worse - then I'll do what's necessary. Until then, I'll work within the system to change it.

Do you think our side will ever figure out the left refuses to “lose” peacefully?

You kidding? Conservatives and American patriots, what's left of them, are getting their asses kicked, and their running away..

Conservatives are some of the biggest CS's in this country...

They run at the first sign of trouble....

They're scared to death of liberals, queers and leftist. For example, some of the best states, most beautiful, with the best weather on the planet, beaches, deserts, mountains, resources etc, etc, the conservatives flee, giving up the very best to settle for less...

Where ever they run to, they'll run again at the first sign of trouble....

Don't believe me? Look around this forum.

Conservatives are in a Cold War with the left.

It's the same cold war that Reagan and countless others fought so hard to win. They fought against the Soviet Communists to prevent them from forcing upon other countries what our Congress just forced upon the American people.

It's not a civil war. It might eventually be part of why one begins, but it's not even close to being a civil war.

Prager is FOS.

And he's a damned fool for (clearly) hoping that a real civil war would start.

Remember, President Bush was trying to give the people a choice with either staying with Security or using private pension plans. The liberals laughed at him

Who you kidding?

Bush rolled out the red carpet and aided and abetted a massive, violent lawless invasion of our country, during war time. This lawless chaos is costing the American people hundreds of billions, and has literally undermined and compromised our entire system, including our electoral process.

Republicans should have recoiled in burning anger watching this guy celebrate Cinco De Mayo up in the White House while a conga-line of millions was being welcomed in. Those that had had enough were labeled, "Vigilantes".

Throw the USURPER out of office! Don't allow him to set precedent by merely voting him out in 2 & 1/2 more years, thus allowing future candidates born with foreign allegiance to be "pushed" into the position of Commander in Chief.

HOW CAN A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN'S STATUS BE "GOVERNED" BY GREAT BRITAIN?

“When Barack Obama Jr. was born on Aug. 4,1961, in Honolulu, Kenya was a British colony, still part of the United Kingdom’s dwindling empire. As a Kenyan native, Barack Obama Sr. was a British subject whose citizenship status was governed by The British Nationality Act of 1948. That same act governed the status of Obama Sr.‘s children.
http://fightthesmears.com/articles/5/birthcertificate.html

It can't. Of course not. Yet, right there, on his campaign web site F.T.S., it's stated that a foreign government "governed" Barry from birth and the reason it did, was that Barry inherited that foreign citizenship by way of his foreign national father (no matter where he was born). Assuming, of course, that Sr. was his legal father at birth.
How, then, could he possibly be a "Natural Born Citizen" of the U.S.?
Barry Soetoro, the divided citizen at birth!

Furthermore:  Hawaii's Territorial Law, Chapter 57 - "VITAL STATISTICS, I", shown beginning pg 23 of 29, (the law in effect in 1961) allowed baby's born anywhere in the world to be eligible to apply for a Hawaii birth certificate based on the word of 1 relative. That is how a foreign born baby could get a HI BC on record, which in turn generates the "birth announcements" in the newspapers.

Elections have consequences, just look at what happened on Sunday. Do you think for one second that we would be facing the massive effort that repealing or defunding this monster would even be an issue if we had elected McCain? Do I like him, no do I believe him to be a conservative, sort of and a damn sight better than the Obamanator.

But, maybe we can all just give up and say that elections just don’t matter whine whine whine. I’ve heard it a million times and I’m sick of it.

Politics is moving the ball down the field. It doesn’t always mean that you throw a touchdown, or kick a field goal, it’s about getting there as quickly, or slowly as it takes to get into the endzone.

Social Security for all the fact that it’s a ponzi scheme and financially it is bankrupt was not passed like ObamaCare. It had solid bi-partisan majorities and was a popular program. This doesn’t mean that I don’t agree with you in principle, but we’ve got a shot a repealing HCR.

"Republicans should have recoiled in burning anger watching this guy celebrate Cinco De Mayo up in the White House while a conga-line of millions was being welcomed in. "

Therein lies a major part of the problem. With "Republicans" like Juan McCain and Lindsey Grahmnisty, it is any wonder why the possibility of amnesty for illegals is still a possibility?

Gee, I wonder why the Tea party movement is so strong, growing stronger and is seen as such a threat to the DC establishment (read, (D)'s AND many/most (R)'s)!

You’re right, there was sporadic fighting and I don’t mean to diminish that. What I don’t accept is that this is an excuse to start a civil war with weapons not words. I would have thought that we had our fill of Americans killing Americans in 1864, but, we all have short memories.

Hopefully we are past the stage where we have to kill each other to resolve this constitutional crisis.

Bet the rent, they will push this down the throats of the American people, just like Bush wanted.

This is shell game, a good cop bad cop farce, orchestrated by the super wealthy insiders that want nothing but absolute total control...
