It's a Civil War: What We Do Now
Townhall.com ^ | March 23, 2010 | Dennis Prager

Posted on 03/23/2010 4:56:20 AM PDT by Kaslin

A terrible thing happened to America on Sunday, March 21, 2010.

The country took its biggest step ever down a road diametrically opposed to its original intent of keeping the state small so that the individual can be free and great.

Therefore, in this unprecedented crisis of values, this is what needs to be done:

1. Know and teach America's core values.

We got to this point solely because over the past few generations, Americans have forgotten the values that have made America distinctive and great. Even the "Greatest Generation" failed to communicate them.

In a nutshell, they are what I call the American Trinity: "In God we trust," "Liberty" and "E Pluribus Unum." The left has successfully made war on all three -- substituting secularism for God and religion in as much of American life as possible; substituting equality (of result) for liberty; and multiculturalism is the opposite of "E Pluribus Unum."

People who do not understand American ideals -- especially small government -- now dominate our schools, our entertainment media and our news media.

(My own contribution here is a video titled, "The American Trinity" at prageru.com. Please view it and forward it.)

2. Recognize that we are fighting the left, not liberals.

Conservatives and centrists are no longer fighting liberals. We are fighting the left.

Liberalism believed in American exceptionalism; the left not only does not believe in it, the left opposes it. President Obama, when asked if he believes in American exceptionalism, replied, "I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism, and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism."

Liberalism believed in creating wealth; the left is interested in redistributing it.

Liberalism believed in a strong defense. The left believes in cutting defense and a strong United Nations.

3. Democrats should be referred to as Social Democrats. This is not meant to be cute, let alone as a slur. But calling Democrats Social Democrats is an effective way of reminding Americans that there is no longer any difference between what is now known as the Democratic Party and the Social Democratic parties of Europe. When the Democratic Party returns to its roots as a liberal, not a left-wing, party, we will happily resume calling the party by its original name. However, since no Democrat can cite a significant difference between the Democratic Party and the SD parties, there is no good reason not to use the more accurate nomenclature.

4. Work tirelessly to repeal the bill.

We must single-mindedly work to repeal the government health plan. We all know that it is difficult to repeal entitlements because they are like drugs and it is very difficult to wean people off drugs. But it is not impossible. We need to warn our fellow Americans that entitlements will do to America what drugs eventually do to addicts.

All Republicans must run for office on the "repeal" issue. Even when they lose, the difference between right and left, between Republicans and Social Democrats will have been made clear; and clarity is our best friend.

5. Our motto: "The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen."

I used this phrase in addressing the Republican members of Congress. It has become widely used, including by Rep. David Dreier, R-Calif., on the House floor during the Congressional debate on Sunday. It encapsulates this epic battle of American values versus leftist values. Every movement needs a motto. I nominate this.

6. Do not let other matters distract.

Neither Republicans nor conservatives are united on every issue facing America. Immigration is one example. But we are united on the big government vs. free individual issue, which, more than anything else, has defined America. If we allow any other domestic issue to divide us, we will lose.

And here's why: If Americans forget what America stands for, it won't help us if there is not one illegal immigrant here. And if we do remember what it means to be American, we can handle anything.

7. Acknowledge that we are in a non-violent civil war.

I write the words "civil war" with an ache in my heart. But we are in one.

Thank God this civil war is non-violent. But the fact is that the left and the rest of the country share almost no values. The American value system and the leftist value system are irreconcilable. If the left wins, America's values lose. If American values prevail, the left loses.

After Sunday's vote, for the first time in American history, one could no longer confidently believe that the American system will prevail. And if we don't fight for it, we don't deserve it.

I write the words "civil war" with an ache in my heart. But we are in one.

Who is winning the Civil War? They are cleaning the floor with us. GOP or Democrat, it really makes little difference. The "social democracy" project advances. Elect a GOP Congress: get "No Child Left Behnind", the very name Orwellian, as is the concept that all kids are equally able to achieve at the highest level. It's not that different from the liberal habit of giving every kid on every team a "participation trophy".

Elect Bush and get a brand new BigGovernment entitlement: Medicare Part D. And, oh yeah, no plan to pay for it except deficits.

Nominate McCain and see the GOP's standard bearer explain his unending devotion for the citizen-replacement policy of amnesty and unlimited immigration.

Go into opposition and lose a big health care bill. Ho hum. The beat goes on. We are losing every single day, we are losing every issue. Liberty is being swept from the field!

The standards of "Statism" "Big Government" "We know Best" "Our Way or the HighWay" "Taxes and Death" fly from the high ground.

Thank God this civil war is non-violent.

Yes, thank God we lack the strength of our beliefs, the conviction, the guts and determination, the trust in our God to actually use the methods our forefathers used to win our freedom to protect it in the 20th century.

I pray every day to God to spare me from the horror of war, no matter the cost in innocent human life (as long as it's not mine), or human dignity, or a future for my progeny.

So far my prayers, and Denis's have been answered.

May the darkness of socialism fill all the days of my lives for ever and ever, as long as there be peace.

AMEN.

Did you see the interview with Janet Reno following that massacre?

She was angry, defiant, and VINDICTIVE,

actually shaking with RAGE

that some group of citizens would resist federal power.

Spot on. The government has a monopoly on the use of force, but, as many non-violent revolutions have shown, force is often a deception for those who poses it. They forget from whence their power comes and that is their downfall.

Even the great US Military could not stand against the combined weight of the American public (figuratively speaking, of course). The whole compact of government is that by ceding the monopoly on the use of force to a government, it is supposed to use that force to protect us. When it is used to subjugate, as I claim it has been doing since the advent of the income tax, it can no longer properly be called a representative democracy.

I would submit that the closest forms of government that fit our current situation prior to the Obama administration would be an oligarchy and after Obama, a Facist state model with private enterprise partially owned and directed by the state but with private companies nominally directing their affairs.

Do you think our side will ever figure out the left refuses to “lose” peacefully?

Flag procedure: Fly Old Glory upside-down symbolic signal our nation is in chaos and peril. Do this briefly (2days). Then raise the flag of national resistance... "Don't Tread on Me!"

Always remember the Islamic Ottoman Empire conquered the Christian Byzantium with their Janissary. Obama will pit brother vs brother using the IRS, FBI, DEA and other American Janissary to crush opposition. Despirate people will work for their enemy. Ethnic cleansing and payback are on the table.

Patriots are a minority group. Validate this at your local mall.

”Zimbabwe On The Potomac...”

You know there were warning signs...

I kept telling people when Bill Clinton slithered in to office, and clung to it, despite all the scandals, and Impeachment itself-- “He's just a symptom. Like a fever is of a disease- there's something wrong with America.”

Like Popular Culture- look at the magazines-- I call it “thugs & jugs,” or “which Pop Tart is popping out whose baby this week?”

Or Katrina- ever seen so many people milling around with their hands out, when they should have been helping themselves?

We did it to ourselves, and The New, Improved Black Jesus is merely a symptom.

All civilizations have a shelf life- once enough citizens figure out that by electing the “right” representatives, they can use the power of the government to pick the pockets of others,

...it's all over, except for the details.

Well, we're in the “details,” now.

Meanwhile, I have to figure out what Miss Emily and I do with what's left of our lives, and bush hog her Mom's old place in the country, because City Life isn't going to be worth living from here on out.

I'll catch you all later...

...maybe...

We ain’t there yet, but that day is coming. I think Comrade Peloski and Premier Hussein smell opportunity now, and there is not telling what else they will attempt to ramrod through between now and the first of the year. Stand by, because much, much more is coming.

I advise everyone to do a more formal assessment of their ammo stocks. At least 1000 rounds per weapon, minimum.

I was gonna say "Also, it may be a good idea to invest in a "throw down" gun right about now", but that may be skirting illegality. So don't invest in a throw down gun right about now, unless you really want to.

Women like Janet Reno, Pelosi, Hillary Clinton and a few others make me think my seventh grade teacher knew something. The lady said many times that a good woman is better than any man but a BAD woman is WORSE than any man who ever walked this Earth.

I agree up to the point of them wanting to take this country down...no, they just want to keep the money rolling in. The best way we can retaliate is to take control of the purse strings and cut them off...no more placating scum living off someone else. Yes there are true basket cases that do need help such as the medically disabled...those need to be cared for. But the shiftless lazy rabble who wake up each day for a run to the TV or those drugged out and alcoholed into oblivion, no way. One further point, if I hear the term “single parent” again in front of we need to take care of these children, I am going to burst. Set this standard, you are not married, you have one kid fine..get two and you get sterilized unless you have someone paying your way besides me. At school, you become disruptive, you go..OUT. No timeouts, no remedial no nothing.

Society has fallen down both morally and ethically and when that happens, regardless of how powerful your are or perceive your country to be..it falls. We either stop the slide now or fall off the cliff entirely. Remember, this is the only country where there is some second amendment freedoms so the state cannot reign supreme. If they move on that, it will be time to escalate and quickly.

MrB i will mention a recent event that i attended. without naming any names or giving hint to where i was. it was a forum/social where i was basically the ONLY conservative in the room. the subject was the current war in iraq/afghanistan. i had to bite my lower lip as i heard them talk about it to the point where i silently left the room.

all the things they said about the army and being in iraq were so f’n false, THEY HAVE NO CLUE as to who we are (military and conservatives) to them we are animals and lower bottom feeders and “they” know whats best for us, they were convinced of it.

THESE PEOPLE ARE ON ANOTHER PLANET and i dont mean saturn...

Until we are militant about representation in the media and education on all levels, this will continue downhill.

What do you suggest with regard to the media? I think massive demonstrations at media outlets. The theme should be "state controlled propaganda ministry etc." If they can be painted for what they are, tools of a tyrannical ruling class, they will lose even more credibility with the unthinking class.

It's not cool to be a tool of "the man."

America’s spirit and ideals have inspired many courageous, innovative and tyranny-destroying acts. I believe we can do it again. Educate people about what we have, and why it is threatened, and people will come around. Look how many have already!

We are facing a grave threat. But our ancestors faced even worse. See my tagline. If we give up, then we prove ourselves unworthy of their sacrifices. Man up and git ‘er done!

I think that a lot of people, myself included, have a hard time doing anything to the American flag a/o how it’s flown. It’s bad enough it’s trampled by the left and spit upon by illegals.
