Majority of Republicans: Obama is a Muslim

A new national Louis Harris poll finds that a majority of Republicans believe that President Obama is a Muslim, while 45 percent agree with the so-called "Birthers" that the president was "not born in the United States."

The poll of 2,230 Americans, taken during last weekend's health care showdown in the House of Representatives, shows how successful Obama's opponents have been in demonizing the 44th president.

Full results are expected tomorrow, but preliminary findings were released in The Daily Beast by John Avlon, whose book "Wingnuts" details the hyper-partisanship that has swept America since 2008.

According to the poll, 57 percent of Republicans, and 32 percent of Americans overall, believe that Barack Obama is a Muslim. The opinion comes despite Obama's description in his bestseller, "The Audacity of Hope", of his adoption of the Christian faith.

The poll found that 45 percent of Republicans, and 25 percent in the overall survey, agree with Birthers that Obama was "not born in the United States and so is not eligible to be president."

I agree. I think his real birth certificate would show that Frank Marshall Davis is his real father. I read this on another website long ago and they had a picture of Davis next to an Obama picture and it does look like a resemblance.

Every time I see that New Yorker cover, I wonder what they knew. They aren't a conservative crowd but that certainly makes a clear statement that they objected to Obama.

Why has Obama not released his long-form birth certificate? ...Americans should not have to guess what is printed on their president's birth certificate.

Obama thinks he's bigger than The Beatles.

The Beatles claimed to be bigger than Jesus (it wasn't just a "popularity" statement, John really believed it - "We're more popular than Jesus now; I don't know which will go first — rock and roll or Christianity. Therefore Obama > Beatles > Jesus. Obama thinks he's bigger than Jesus.

As I understand it he was “born” a muslim because his father was a muslim and Obama has not renounced the faith. If he were to do so he’d be marked for death. Now, girls born to muslim father are not automatically muslim. No child is automatically a muslim if the mother is muslim and the father is not.

And you’ll notice he had a perfect chance to renounce Islam in his interview with Stephenopoulas (sp). Instead he let George do it for him.

Horowitz shows that the enemies of the US back then are largely the same group today, operating under the same misperceptions, making the same mistakes, and pursuing the same impossible utopia.

Individual chapters are included on the Patriot Act (I was persuaded that it is a GOOD thing); the democratic flip-flop on Iraq once G.W. Bush implemented what they agreed with Clinton needed to be done; the driving components of the current anti-war movement; as well as chapters on individual personalities who are major spokespeople of the Left. Horowitz covers a lot of ground, and he covers it concisely and clearly. Unholy Alliance is richly informative without ever being boring or plodding.

This book is so illuminating that I simply cannot do justice to it here. I love people who reason so clearly that they help me get my own reasoning clear. Horowitz is just that type of person! In the terrain of mindless clichés (no-blood-for-oil, etc.), he is a breath of real fresh air."

I’m just amazed that 25% of the country believes Obama wasn’t born here. Up until now I was under the impression that the birthers were a tiny segment of the population. How interesting that there are so many. I’m still up in the air about it myself.

I’d just like to know why he doesn’t release the certificate once and for all. Is he waiting until the next election when he’ll pull it out to make the republicans look stupid for doubting? Or does he really just not have one?
