IRS will police health care
Lindsay Landry / KETK News

TYLER - The Internal Revenue Service will be the government's chief enforcer for health care reform. They'll be responsible for watching both business and individuals to make sure they have the insurance coverage the government requires. But the questions is, will the IRS really be able to enforce this?

According to the new bill, the purpose of the mandates is to regulate economic and financial decisions about how and when health care is paid for, and when health insurance is bought. But many worry if the IRS is up for the challenge.

In 2014, every person and most businesses will be required to certify on their tax returns if they have bought the level of insurance they're required to have. If not, then that person or business will have to pay a separate tax to the IRS. For individuals it could be up to $750 a person or $2,250 a household. And for a business, $750 per uncovered employee.

To make this work, the Congressional Budget Office has estimated that the IRS will need $10 billion in additional funds, funds which were not made available under the health reform bill.

**SNIP**

Some believe this will be tough to enforce because of how complicated the bill is.

"They're going to have to beer the branch up in order to enforce it," Peter Milne of Healy, Milne & Associates. "It will actually be cheaper to pay the fines than it will be to pay the premiums."

The problem is is that the IRS can make a person’s life absolute hell if they set their sights on him.

You’ve got it. Our coming thugocracy will not let a little thing like “rule of law” get in their way. The law will be anything they say it is.

Did I remember correctly? I heard on talk radio — 15 thousand new IRS agents needed for this. [Fuzzy memory alert.]

What is going to happen when an illegal alien shows up at the Emergency Room with a broken arm or a sick baby? I have no doubt they will be treated. Will they be “fined” for not having insurance? Will they be given an application to get a subsidized health insurance policy? Is there a plan?

Nearly 50% of the US population CAN NOT. At least yet. When they see it, it may be too late. Sad.

I hardly see any Obama bumper stickers anymore, and know of very few people who admit to voting for him. Unfortunately, their damage is done. If people did not see this coming, they're idiots.

These IRS agents might as well get drunk off their favorite brewskis, because it is going to be a MIND-NUMBING TASK sifting through all that tax data for health care reprobates.

IRS cannot touch us, they cannot levy fines or seize property from what the legal annalists say.

I will test that theory, I have a yard full of rejected vehicles on blocks, a pile of obsolete equipment from old computers to cassette tape movies and I job I’m about to retire from.

“I have no income and do not file tax returns. So how would this effect me? Something tells me I fall between the cracks.”

From an old thread with a booklet from 1939 about FDR and the New Deal. This is a “brief” excerpt.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2185147/posts

PROBLEM SIX THE DOMESTICATION OF THE INDIVIDUAL

.... But it was as if in every ease the question was, “Which course of action will tend more to increase the dependence of the individual upon the Federal government?” — and as if invariably the action resolved upon was that which would appeal rather to the weakness than to the strength of the individual.....

Which was only one more way of saying a hard truth that was implicit in the American way of thinking, namely, that when people support the government they control government, but when the government supports the people it will control them.

Well, what could be done with a people like that? The answer was propaganda.....

.... by suggestion that in the modern environment the individual, through no fault or weakness of hie own, had become helpless and was no longer able to cope with the adversities of circumstances. In one of his Fireside Chats, after the first six months, the President said: “Long before Inauguration Day I became convinced that individual effort and local effort and even disjointed Federal effort had failed and of necessity would fail, and, therefore, that a rounded leadership by the Federal Government had become a necessity both of theory and of fact.” ......

After the acts that were necessary to gain economic power the New Deal created no magnificent new agency that had not the effect of making people dependent upon the Federal government for security, income, livelihood, material satisfactions, or welfare......

No individual life escaped, unless it was that of a desert rat or cave dweller.

It was thus that the hand of paternal government, leaving first seized economic power, traced the indelible outlines of the American Welfare State.....

In the welfare state pressure groups, representing willful political action, cannot be tolerated. They will have to be suppressed at last, because in the welfare state the government cannot really guarantee social security until it goes to the logical end, which is to ration the national income in time of peace just as all goods and satisfactions are rationed in time of war.

I am aware that they plan to make them all legal. What really burns me up is that they didn’t even attempt to answer the question of what to do with illegals and health care! I really was asking a serious question. What happens now? They haven’t made them legal YET! If you or I go to the ER, without proof of health insurance, we will be fined by the IRS. What will they do to an undocumented patient? If they plan to give them subsidized, er free, health insurance, at least make them stand up and admit it.
