Senator Mitch McConnell... is not inclined to push Republicans to go along with any effort to force a vote on repeal during reconciliation, despite David Vitter offering up an amendment to do just that and separate stand alone legislation being offered by Senator Jim DeMint with a host of Republican co-sponsors.
Thanks LaybackLenny. He will, or be toast!

If McCain had made hay about Obama’s Marxist background... well we’d probably have President McCain now.

Do they switch back and forth between the Bummercare reconciliation bill and other things? If they don’t, then DeMint’s bill is going to have to wait anyhow.

It would be a stupid stunt. McConnell's right. The silly amendments the Republicans are offering are dumb enough.

Once they're in the majority they can work on fixing this. In the meantime, stick to educating the public.

All you repubic cheerleaders... this is why we despise your leadership! We could accomplish miracles... if only we had real leadership with balls.

Well, I mean after Obama was declared the Democrat candidate. Hillary would not figure. She had been rejected by the Democrats.

Why are you so insistant that the Republicans bring to a vote something that will be sure to fail? What exactly would we gain from such an futile exercise?

Sometimes symbols matter.

And how, exactly, does it matter in this case?

Yeah, I know what it takes to repeal a bill. I also know what it takes to send a message.

The only message this exercise in futulity would send is that some people can't count.

This is nuts...now I've got to defend the folks I just bashed. Reason: Those "silly" amendments are designed to force the Demon-crats to go on the record as supporting stuff like Viagra for convicts. And that's fine with me. But I like to think the Pubbies can walk and chew gum at the same time. On the other hand...

For me this is a defining moment. This is where we find out who is who.

Either this bill is flatly and patently unconstitutional, or we’re just dickering over terms.

Either we go for an outright repeal and repudiation or we’re just arguing about the wallpaper. If thats all thats left, then its meaningless to be GOP. We’re just Thrifty Democrats. We’ll implement their agenda, but we’ll do it for less money.

Granted, that a motion to repeal will fail now. But we’ll declare war on it and the war will finish, perhaps after November, perhaps down the road, but we should make it clear that nothing gets done without a fight until this thing is eighty-sixed. First we’ll defund it and then we’ll kill it. Any Repub reaching across the aisle between now and then needs to be defeated at the earliest opportunity. If McConnell is trying to get on my radar, he is succeeding.

>> What exactly would we gain from such an futile exercise?

That’s a good question, and here is the answer.

1) It buys time
2) It keeps them from considering other damaging bills
3) It keeps the issue FRONT and CENTER in the press, thus keeping the populus stirred up; they have a short memory
4) Done properly, it embarrasses the opposition and forces them to confront their own folly

I bet I’m not even covering ALL of the things that could be gained, but those are some of them.

Now, YOU tell ME: what exactly is to be gained by rolling over and playing nice and failing to oppose, oppose, oppose this evil government and its socialist direction?

I heard Sean Hannity’s interview this afternoon with McConnell and he said that they planned to repeal the whole enchilada! He called it repeal and replace.

Has something changed?

So much for the Senate pubbies growing a pair.

Did it ever occur to you folks who attack Republicans that they are letting things play out in the courts, the elections and public opinion? They waged a wonderful fight to try to keep that monstrosity from passing, even though they had no real power to do so. Now they’re fighting strategically instead of just tactically, looking down the road toward November.

I’d rather not toss the baby out with the bathwater...we do have some pansy pantywaist pubbies there, but at the same time, voting for symbols is useless...we need some unity with the sens, reps, and governors in getting lawsuits passed!

Say what?

You don’t “get lawsuits passed”.

Anyway, the court battle is a separate one that can proceed in parallel. We need to fight this enemy on ALL fronts!
