AP : Say, guess what we just found in ObamaCare !
Hot Air ^ | MARCH 25, 2010 | ED MORRISSEY

Congress passed the bill without knowing what was in it. Barack Obama signed it without reading it. Now it looks as though the Associated Press reported on ObamaCare without comprehending its content. Readers will have to scroll far down to discover that the elimination of a key tax break that kept retirees on company prescription-medication plans will mean dumping millions of seniors onto Medicare — and that the AP ignored it until now:

The health care overhaul will cost U.S. companies billions and make them more likely to drop prescription drug coverage for retirees because of a change in how the government subsidizes those benefits.

In the first two days after the law was signed, three major companies — Deere & Co., Caterpillar Inc. and Valero Energy — said they expect to take a total hit of $265 million to account for smaller tax deductions in the future.

With more than 3,500 companies now getting the tax break as an incentive to keep providing coverage, others are almost certain to announce similar cost increases in the weeks ahead as they sort out the impact of the change.

Figuring out what it will mean for retirees will take longer, but analysts said as many as 2 million could lose the prescription drug coverage provided by their former employers, leaving them to enroll in Medicare’s program.

“Looks like I’ll be scrubbing toilets till they put me in the grave.”

Before we are done, Obama will be cleaning toilets.

That was part of the strategy all along . . . and this is why the "health care reform" is a bi-partisan measure despite the GOP's political posturing on this.

Remember -- it was the Republican House, Senate and President who passed that Medicare Prescription Drug Plan in the first place. And the intent of that plan all along was to provide a mechanism for major U.S. corporations to dump retirees from their own insurance rolls.

I just put the phrase “The health care overhaul will cost U.S. companies billions and make them more likely to drop prescription drug coverage for retirees because of a change in how the government subsidizes those benefits” into google and this was the first link that came back:

[The hell with it. The only solution is to bankrupt the system.]

You are exactly correct. I have health issues I’ve always paid for in the past. But it appears our patriotic duty is to NOT pay the healthcare tax, while simultaneously running up the bill any way we can (I should have been on disability long ago). Apparently the only way to fix the system is to crash the system. Atlas Shrugged.

What they put or left out of the bill was done with one purpose. CBO scoring and the ability to pass it. Once passed, all bets are off. Any group that complains loud enough will get what they want put back in. “Clearly we didn’t intend to...” is a phrase i expect to hear more than once.

Just wait till everyone figures out that Companies will pay the penalty and drop coverage. Then the TAX FREE company paid premium will instead be paid with AFTER TAX money by YOU. Not only will you be paying the full boat you will be paying additional taxes on top of it.

My experience has been that the corporations try to keep retirees on their plans. They must benefit in some way--larger pool of insured or something, especially if their records show the retiree is basically healthy.

Compare the plan carefully with Medicare plus Medigap and you will probably see that the plan does not compare favorably. They tend to be geared to the executives who chose the plan for the company in the first place.

The drug coverage is usually good, however.

The debate is essentially over.

Funny, that EXACTLY what the American troops said as they landed on the beaches of Normandy, just before they laid down and waited for others to fight for them.

The communist/socialist/liberal anonymous authors of this coup d’etat knew perfectly well what they put into the bill.

I agree. There were many conspirators/authors involved in penning this poison and each one knows exactly what they put into it. No one person knows all of it but all of it will get implemented because the people that wrote it will hammer away at the specifics that they added...
