You would think that a nativist/anti-immigrant leader would have wavy blonde hair, piercing blue eyes and a square jaw – a Son of the American Revolution whose people booked passage on the Mayflower. You would not expect such a scourge of alien hordes to be a middle-aged Jewish writer and the grandson of immigrants.
But, there I am on the website of People For the American Way’s RightWingWatch.org – censured as a notorious foe of what it styles “immigration reform.”
Along with Michelle Malkin (another unlikely Aryan), I’m at the top of its “Previewing The Right Wing Playbook On Immigration Reform” web site.
The expose is a ploy to stifle a debate on the left's latest push for amnesty, which was launched on Sunday with a D.C. rally by illegal immigrants and their enablers. Not coincidentally, the attempt to resurrect amnesty came as the president and House Democrats took a major step toward socializing our health care system.
The two are not unrelated. In the process of passing health-care deform (including vote-buying and riding roughshod over the legislative process), the president has alienated most voters. A Rasmussen poll taken on the eve of the House vote showed Obama’s approval rating had sunk to an historic low – only 26% of Americans strongly approve of his performance, 42% strongly disapprove. Congressmen rank below tort lawyers in the public’s esteem.
Besides remaking U.S. health care, the left needs to remake the electoral map – hence the push for a massive amnesty, to be followed by citizenship to be followed by minting new voters who won’t speak English or understand the Constitution or the rights and duties of citizenship.
