I have an identical status to your dad. So what?

Gee friend, I don't know. I already answered your question. Do you want to make a point, or what?

As a retired 06 myself, I give a LtCol ( some call them “telephone colonels” to distinguish an 05 from an 06) I consider them a bit stronger than a mid range officer simply because if the TO is short of colonel’s they then can fill that billet. And within the Reserve community, if one is a Major and there is a billet open for a Capt, though it is not ideal, they could fill that billet especially if it is a paid billet as opposed to drilling in a non paid billet but for points billet whereas a Lt Colonel can fill Colonel’s billet but not a junior billet.I have had experience with both communities. So I do grant a LtCol a bit more status than mid range status.
As to General Officers, I hear you! The other interesting thing about flag rank officers is that they serve at the pleasure of the President..so if they want to retire, and the President says no then they have to stay on and if they want to stay on and the President says no then they could be forced to retire or fill what they might consider a lesser billet.Flag ranks are a whole “nother country”.

Because I do not believe you quoted your father correctly.

Division Commanders have roles that entail a whole lot of soldiering.

I guess you're psychic, and heard him better than I did? I know exactly what my father said to me. You've got a different viewpoint than him, fine.

He served in Korea, Vietnam, and in peacetime. I trust his view on this.

I have a different view for the reason stated.
