My mother will fire her housekeeper at her B&B as soon as she must provide mandatory health insurance. Even with the 50% tax credit, it will still be too expensive to offer that benefit.

One job killed. I imagine she’s not the only small business person in this position.

On other note, I suspect having to fire her housekeeper will also KILL her. She has a heart condition and really shouldn’t be cleaning a 17 room B&B herself. Not to mention the fact that her cardiologist also told her that he’ll likely have to drop her as a result of this new bill when she moves on to Medicare.

The hits keep coming...

I should point out that this is based on my fear that ALL businesses will eventually be forced to provide health insurance...

Does your mother have 50 housekeepers? If not, she doesn't have to provide mandatory health insurance, even after 2014. Under current state law she may already be required to provide workman's compensation insurance, but that has nothing to do with "Obamacare".

On other note, I suspect having to fire her housekeeper will also KILL her.

Maybe you should find out what the law really says before you start speculating on the manner of your mother's death. Also, if you're really worried about her, maybe you should do something to help.

I think this bill means that all will be on government run healthcare. There will be no private medical businesses.

Read my follow-on post. I’m suspecting that this is the first step towards the “haves” (my mother as a business owner) having to provide for the “have nots” (her housekeeper).

By the way, how can I help the fact that my mother will lose her preferred cardiologist when she goes on Medicare thanks to this bill? Any suggestions?

That’s what the cardiologist told her: something about having to take more patients, so he was going to turn away Medicare patients...

The billions that companies are already writing down because they can no longer deduct certain health care benefits for retirees (as required by law), is billions that could be spent in investing in better products, hiring more people, and upgrading machines. Instead, it goes to the federal government for redistribution to those most likely to vote for Obama.

The hits are just beginning.....
they will be coming in dribs and drabs, and they’ll all be
explained away by this Administration in the forced march they’ve put us on to oblivion. Just hope that ENOUGH of these hits come to amount to something decisive before November, so that we can be ASSURED of reversing their majority in Congress. In order to do that we have to be relentless in penetrating the self-congratulating rhetoric of Zero and his Gang, as they explain the world to us in their Neo-Orwellian terms, where everything is its opposite, as long as the Media tells us so, and as long as the news is delivered with a self-confident smile, buoyed by a self-assured chuckle.
And just hope that we’re clear enough in expressing to any Indy or Pubbie that gets into office that what we want is the beginning of the process where the EXTINCTION of the Democratic Party in its present form is also ASSURED.
Nothing less will do. THey’ve done enough in their grand experiment to DESTROY Capitalism, WITH OUR MONEY.( -—which is what’s really galling......couldn’t they have used all of George Soros’s money?)

“Also, if you're really worried about her, maybe you should do something to help.”

You know he isn't already doing something to help? You're pretty loose with your accusations widemouth.

But, full-time counts anyone working 120 hours per quarter. I assume job recruiters know of what they speak. And, I am looking for permanent part-time because of my MS, and that is what I am being told. FYI.

One employee is many steps away from 50 employees, so obviously you are jumping to some very premature conclusions. By the way, I noticed you making the same point yesterday about health care reform killing your mother, and I just think you are reacting like "Chicken Little" for the reasons I have already given. Also it just seemed odd to me that you were talking about your mother dying when she is still around.

By the way, how can I help the fact that my mother will lose her preferred cardiologist when she goes on Medicare thanks to this bill? Any suggestions?

1. Apparently the Medicare cutbacks to cardiologists were already scheduled before the health care reform bill was passed. This is related to something called the "sustainable growth rate formula". The House has already passed a bill to rescind the cutbacks, but the Senate has not acted. You can go to this link to contact your congresspersons.

2. If I were you I would help my parent find another cardiologist that she likes who is not going to dump Medicare patients, just in case her current doctor follows through on his previously stated plans.

3. Obviously, given the demographics of this country, something will be done to prevent all cardiologists who treat older patients from going out of business.

4. Since your mother is no longer prevented from purchasing additional insurance for herself because of a pre-existing condition maybe she could look into "Medigap" policies. I understand that her income might be a problem and I have no idea how age will factor in to the new rates.

5. In looking back I realize there are some things I should have stopped one of my parents from doing. Maybe there are some other things you could do to help your mother lighten her load.

Relax. Read the OP’s follow-on post.

I''m trying to suggest the "OP" needs to relax.

One of the main criticisms of liberals on FR is their "sky is falling" attitude and also their tendency to act helpless. In this case I think it is important to check whether the sky is really falling, but also to think of what realistic actions might improve the situation.
