Texas Town Lives in Fear From Mexican Drug Violence
FOX ^ | April 2, 2010 | Joshua Rhett Miller

Fort Hancock, Texas --

Locals here say they've seen a recent increase in illegal immigrants simply walking across the border and disappearing into the town, which lies just four miles from El Porvenir, Mexico, and 50 miles southeast of Ciudad Juarez, where 2,300 people were killed last year alone.

"They just walk across the border, right up my street," said Irby, 69, who lives close to Fort Hancock High School. "There has been an influx of people coming over from Mexico."

Other residents , meanwhile, say they refuse to live in fear. But nearly all residents interviewed said they're paying closer attention to who comes in and out of town.

"I know it’s getting bad over there," said Frank Potts, 54. "I'm a little scared, but I’m not too worried."

Potts, who lives alone, said he’s been listening for gunshots at night emanating from the Mexican border. He said the current climate is the worst it’s been in his five years in town.

"There is fear," he said.

"We haven’t seen [violence] here, but it’s a matter of time that it's going to come over," said Denny Chavez, a foreman at a local farm. "There's a lot of activities that go on at night that we don't know about."

Another diner, Terry Rose, called for an increased border presence by the National Guard and said he was frustrated with the current immigration debate, particularly regarding calls for amnesty.

"With so many people moving in from Mexico, some of them are going to be bad people," Rose said. "So, the potential [for violence] is there."

Some residents said they didn't want to comment on the situation due to fears of reprisal.

"People don't want their names in the paper," one local woman said. "We're all scared."

Illegal Immigrant Gets 168 Years

PHOENIX - The man dubbed as the "Chandler rapist" was sentenced to 168.5 years behind bars on Friday.

Santana Batiz-Aceves is an illegal alien. He was arrested in 2008 and admitted to preying on teenage girls, attacking them after their parents left for work.

Aceves plead guilty to a dozen charges last month as part of a plea deal, including child molestation and aggravated assault. He knew what he was going to get: 168.5 years.

On Friday, the court room was filled with sobs as victims and their families spoke out about Aceves' reign of terror is the east valley.

He scoped out targets of his fiendish sex crimes, girls between the ages of 12 and 14. He researched comings and goings painstakingly, until the moment he pounced. Wielding knives, screwdrivers, anything he could find to intimidate his innocent victims. Then he threatened to kill them if they breathed a word to anyone.

One of those victims had the courage to stand before the judge and address her attacker.

Aceves had two prior felonies for drugs and burglary. He had been deported three times from the United States.

There’s no reason to expect this to change. In fact, look for this to spread to other American cities near the border.

Don’t look for any help from the Feds. These people didn’t get any from the Bush Administration and they sure won’t from Urkel’s Adminstration either.

The Washington elite’s message is clear, “You’re on your own on the border.” These folks are just collateral damage to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Democrat-Republican Party in DC.

The elites are thrilled to see us scurrying about in fear. We got too complacent, too comfortable, too middle class in our decent working class neighborhoods -— we needed to be integrated, multicultural (mainly one invading “culture”), diverse, one-world. While the nobility sits in their gated communities, secure SUVs/limos/jets/islands, and eat arugula.

Ah, now is the time for someone to post that commercial for Thompson submachine guns..”Protecting the Ranch”. Too bad I can’t as I am on dialup in the midst of a rainstorm.

Too bad citizens of the US can no longer own new submachine guns, to protect the border and themselves.

Texas is rapidly turning into Mexico anyway so why don’t we just rush it along? The countrysides are littered with trailers where 2 or more families live and 10 cars in the yard. Try finding busser’s in restaurants that can speak Texan or English! We are a pathetic country right now.

Texas, Mexico....we’re almost there!!
