Tom Coburn Knocks Fox News, Says Nancy Pelosi is a "Nice Person"
CBS News ^ | 4/6/2010 | Brian Montopoli

Posted on 04/06/2010 9:58:34 AM PDT by OldGuard1

Sen. Tom Coburn, a staunch conservative from Oklahoma, is doing what seems almost unthinkable in this polarized political climate: Defending his Democratic colleagues from critics at Fox News.

At a town hall meeting, Coburn suggested that a woman who said "they can put us in prison" for not obtaining health insurance under the health care reform bill is misinformed.

"The intention is not to put anybody in jail," he said. "That makes for good TV news on Fox but that isn't the intention."

He also defended House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the architect of the House version of the health care legislation that he fiercely opposed.

"I'm 180 degrees in opposition to the speaker -- she's a nice lady," he said. The crowd could be heard responding unfavorably to his characterization.

"Come on now, she is a nice -- how many of you all have met her?" continued Coburn. "She's a nice person. She's a nice person."

They are no longer the opposition - they are the enemy and should be treated as such.

"The intention is not to put anybody in jail," he said.

Either they are going to punish those who don't pay, or the whole thing falls apart, because not only do they need low risk people to pay for high risk people's policies, but they need to pay all the salaries of all the new fed. employees this monster creates.

SCOTUS when they overturned the campaign finance law:

FEC BUREAUCRAT: (honestly) "Yes. If it were a book, yes, the promotion and release would have been prohibited. But really, even though the criminal law is there, trust me, nobody would have ever been prosecuted in that way."

JUSTICE ROBERTS: (Leaning forward, forehead furrowed): "Madam, we do not put our First Amendment rights at the mercy of FEC bureaucrats!"

"In other words, he is showing class to an enemy of this country, while at the same time punching those people who care about this country in the stomach."

Bingo! You said better than I did. One, Coburn's joining the attack on Fox News by the radicals. Two, he's attacking his base, which is also under attack by Obama, Pelosi, Reid down to every third rate actress in the country.

Elected GOP politicians have to sometime, at last, knew to defend their supporters and not join in the attacks. Have they learned NOTHING from 8 years of Bush/Rove? Hell, even Rove NOW admits that he made a huge, big effing mistake, by not defending Bush or Bush supporters.

We screamed at Rove for 8 years to do this. He only learns in time to sell books. Now, every GOP politicians or wannabe politicians MUST LEARN to defend their supporters, who are under relentless attack by the establishment from every orifice. Outside of talk radio, we don't have anyone standing up for us.

Dear GOP, why has the Tea Party arisen? Why aren't they under the GOP? Ask yourself this, GOP apparatchiks? Why not?

If I lived in Oklahoma — which I don’t — and it was a vote between him and a Rat, I certainly wouldn’t vote for the Rat. I wouldn’t even stay home. But if it was between him and a true Tea Party candidate, I wouldn’t hesitate to choose the latter. We need representatives who can spot a snake in the grass when they see one. Who aren’t always looking for excuses to compromise with their “friends”. Who don’t read the New York Times to get “diverse viewpoints”.

Coburn is a doctor... Maybe he’s self-prescribing himself oxycontin or morphine or something..
Nobody decent and honorable could voluntarily make the kind of idiotic comments Coburn made.

Pelosi is an America-hating, San Fransicko socialist.
She is NOT nice, not in any way, shape, manner, or form.

I don’t think you throw the guy out over this. Just a firm slap in the face to snap him out of his spell should be sufficient.

I read your post, that's why I said it’s impossible.
Folks who are nice people, are not Nazi-like jerks in public and very nice people in private.
You are either a nice person, or you are not. If everything you say and do in public is rabid, nasty and vicious (like Pelosi), you are not a nice person. Period. I don't care if she is like a purring kitten when she gets into bed naked with her husband at night or not.

Man the worm turns on FR pretty quick. Oklahoma is regularly lauded as having the two best senators here. But I guess no more because what he said here weighs more heavily than how he votes.

Sen. Coburn is cool and all but when it comes to dealing with the enemy, if you have something nice to say, say nothing at all.

Coburn....Is done. Tell me he’s not cowtowing to the Statists? Tell me he’s not just making sure he’s got his little niche in the Regime once they do away with those pesky elections and put Washington DC in charge of EVERYTHING. Tell me Coburn is up for reelection this year? Tell me he has a REAL Conservative primary opponent?!

“They are no longer the opposition - they are the enemy and should be treated as such.”

I guess my attitude is a little out of step with a lot of other Freepers here. Politically, I am vehemently opposed to Obama/Pelosi/Reid, but I don’t see them as the enemy, at least not in the same sense that Al Qaeda and Kim Jong-Il are our enemies. I think the kind of anger I’m seeing now is not disimilar to the level of anger that preceded the Civil War, and I hope to God we don’t go down that path again.

Nancy Counts on Corruption
Special to FreeRepublic ^ | 7 Nov. 2009 | John Armor (Congressman Billybob)

Posted on Sunday, November 08, 2009 12:33:26 AM by Congressman Billybob

Nancy D’Alesandro Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, has regularly accused the Republicans in the House of displaying “a culture of corruption.” Yet the critical vote to get the House version of the health bill out of the House, demonstrates that Speaker Pelosi not only likes corruption, she counts on it. Remember her middle name because it figures in the proof.

Is the drive to success, regardless of ethics, logic, or even criminal violations, a new style for Nancy Pelosi? I grew up in Baltimore, and for a brief time lived next door to Nancy D’Alesandro. She was the daughter of Tommy D’Alesandro, Jr., then the corrupt Mayor of Baltimore.

i>"The intention is not to put anybody in jail," he said. "That makes for good TV news on Fox but that isn't the intention."

Senator, what you INTEND for a bill to do isn't the point, now, is it?

"I'm 180 degrees in opposition to the speaker -- she's a nice lady," he said.

There is a difference between someone who can be polite, respectful, and cordial, and someone who is genuinely a nice person.

Frankly I'm disappointed, Senator. Do ANY of you people on Capitol Hill actually THINK?
