Sen. Tom Coburn, a staunch conservative from Oklahoma, is doing what seems almost unthinkable in this polarized political climate: Defending his Democratic colleagues from critics at Fox News.
At a town hall meeting, Coburn suggested that a woman who said "they can put us in prison" for not obtaining health insurance under the health care reform bill is misinformed.
"The intention is not to put anybody in jail," he said. "That makes for good TV news on Fox but that isn't the intention."
He also defended House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the architect of the House version of the health care legislation that he fiercely opposed.
"I'm 180 degrees in opposition to the speaker -- she's a nice lady," he said. The crowd could be heard responding unfavorably to his characterization.
"Come on now, she is a nice -- how many of you all have met her?" continued Coburn. "She's a nice person. She's a nice person."

So a voting record that varies between 98 and 100% conservative makes you a RINO?
I’m not opposed to removing everyone from office, but if I had to pick the order, Coburn would be one of the last to go.
Sorry Mr. Coburn, I have lived under Nancy's carnage for many years, I'm a first hand witness of her harmful leadership in California. I would not let her in my house or near my family, so don't tell me, you fool, how nice the beast is.

Oh great! Another “conservative” who still believes that democrats are our friends and are personally nice people. Nitwit. The democrat party and democrats are the enemies of the Constitution and the republic; this is war to maintain the Constitution and republic. No Titus, this is bad news, he makes these comments without regard for the consequences, and I was a big fan, believe me.
I would guess Coburn is one of the most conservative in the state. He is definitely one of the most conservative in the senate.
This handwringing is pretty funny.
And the consequences are what? The great arbiters of who is and isn’t a RINO, the posters on Free Republic, will decide that he is a RINO without regard to his voting record. And then 7 months later he will be handily re-elected?
Or maybe some will follow his advice and maintain a line between the policy discussion and personally attacking the other side. And get their information from a variety of perspectives to make informed decisions. That sounds like a terrible consequence.
He almost failed to get the Senate seat because in the center of Indian country in Oklahoma, he told the natives he thought we ought to get rid of the separate Indian nation treaties and relationships. Which in my view (as a 1/4 NA) is absolutely correct. But a bad place to have said what he said.
I also know Nancy. She is an absolute Commie; outright political enemy who doesn't care about the Constitution or much of anything other than political success. But having said that, she is also a charming lady; and more important, she is the most effective politician in Washington DC. bar nobody.
One of the absolute downsides of possible success in getting Obama kicked out is that under the Constitutional Amendment, Congress can define the process for selecting the replacement. Pelosi is one of the most likely choices.
Not in this instance, he isn't. He is equivocating, and attempting to avoid explicitly acknowledging and then dealing with the reality of who and what Nancy Pelosi and her cohorts actually are.
Coburn himself actually is a "nice person", and that's why he is so easily fooled and manipulated by people like Pelosi. In totality, he is one of the best senators in the entire country. However, in this instance, he is hopelessly naive, deluded, deceived, and just plain wrong.
This Senator should check in to a mental institution.

I think everyone who entires the DC airspace becomes stupid at some point. After years they become a crook and a liar.

I see a whole lot of handwringing over nothing. That this will even be remembered in November is highly unlikely.
Sometimes I really wish I could work up righteous anger as easily as so many here do. It looks like fun.
