Sen. Tom Coburn, a staunch conservative from Oklahoma, is doing what seems almost unthinkable in this polarized political climate: Defending his Democratic colleagues from critics at Fox News.
At a town hall meeting, Coburn suggested that a woman who said "they can put us in prison" for not obtaining health insurance under the health care reform bill is misinformed.
"The intention is not to put anybody in jail," he said. "That makes for good TV news on Fox but that isn't the intention."
He also defended House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the architect of the House version of the health care legislation that he fiercely opposed.
"I'm 180 degrees in opposition to the speaker -- she's a nice lady," he said. The crowd could be heard responding unfavorably to his characterization.
"Come on now, she is a nice -- how many of you all have met her?" continued Coburn. "She's a nice person. She's a nice person."

Should have known Coburn was going Liberal when he supported John McCain early on in the 2008 primary season.
Coburn now bought and paid for by DC $$$$$
Mr Coburn, do not let the screen door hit your arse on the way out of conservatism.....
I hate the Senate. What is it about that place that turns otherwise intelligent people into sycophantic, politically tone-deaf idiots that care more for their colleagues than they do about their country?
Term Limits
“Well thats it, obviously Coburn has been coopted. “
Stockholm Syndrome
And if the snake wasn't charming, Eve would never have eaten fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
And she would not have been the first woman to say, "I don't have a thing to wear."
Yea, she’s nice....
She offered all the kingdoms of the earth for a healthcare vote.
Of course not. Redistribution of your property is the intention (along with taking your soul)...
LOL! Perfect!
If that is not the intention then why is it in the bill? The jack-hole needs to go.
I’m sure Satan has his good points too.
“Tom Coburn is being polite and diplomatic, and showing a lot of class. He probably really does think Nancy Pelosi is nice, so I have no problem with his approach in trying to be friendly to the opposition so long as he sticks to his principles”
You may be right that he is showing class, in his own way. But he is showing class towards people who are bent on destroying everything that made this country great. That is not class. That is a failure to recognize a) the anger and sense of betrayal felt by hard working Americans; b) the political climate; and c) who these people really are.
In other words, he is showing class to an enemy of this country, while at the same time punching those people who care about this country in the stomach.
You mean you dont like Pelosi??? I liked when she said this year that she is part of the Tea party movement, after previously last year saying the protestors are not even real, just astro-turf protestors. If you cant beat them join them right?
From what I am reading the HR bill they passed has small fines, with little or no consequences if you dont pay them. There is no criminal penalty. But chances are the IRS can probably just take your property to pay for it, like they do for income taxes. Although there are criminal penalties for avoiding income taxes.
“Come on now, she is a nice — how many of you all have met her?” continued Coburn. “She’s a nice person. She’s a nice person.”
And when Coburn was talking tough about grilling Dems who lose their seat, and are nominated for positions in Obamacare... I expressed skepticism. I was critizied by many freepers for that stance.
Those freepers may want to re-examine their position. I’m accepting apologies.
Politician, D or R = whore.
They are all in cahoots, every single one of them......please, they are their own little world and I am sure there is more than enough dirt on both sides...
Kindnesses shown to that miserable wretch will benefit no one; Coburn is wasting his breath.
No tyrant is a nice person.
Great movie and very appropriate.
