Sen. Tom Coburn, a staunch conservative from Oklahoma, is doing what seems almost unthinkable in this polarized political climate: Defending his Democratic colleagues from critics at Fox News.
At a town hall meeting, Coburn suggested that a woman who said "they can put us in prison" for not obtaining health insurance under the health care reform bill is misinformed.
"The intention is not to put anybody in jail," he said. "That makes for good TV news on Fox but that isn't the intention."
He also defended House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the architect of the House version of the health care legislation that he fiercely opposed.
"I'm 180 degrees in opposition to the speaker -- she's a nice lady," he said. The crowd could be heard responding unfavorably to his characterization.
"Come on now, she is a nice -- how many of you all have met her?" continued Coburn. "She's a nice person. She's a nice person."

When people disagree with me, I find that the friendly approach is usually more effective in getting them to see my point of view, and sometimes I can even sway them to my way of thinking. If I’m combative in discussing my disagreements with them, it’s usually much harder to get them to listen to what I have to say.
Soo now alledgedly “staunch conservatives” think Pelosi is a nice person. The upside of this is that another RINO—aka demrat—has been outed.
Pelosi is a limousine Marxist,a sociopath and a psychopath.
With all the disastrous things the RATS are proposing - why, of all things, is he even talking about this!!
The biggest problem we have are those republican 'gentlemen' who reach across the aisle to prove that they are such good people - only to have their heads slammed against the wall by the RATS.
How about some spine & common sense for a change!!
Did you read my entire post, or just stop after the first clause?
Romans 3
10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
15 Their feet are swift to shed blood:
16 Destruction and misery are in their ways:
17 And the way of peace have they not known:
18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.
So ... she's 'nice'.
Nonetheless, she advocates the continued destruction of an America that was founded as a Constitutional Republic - with the premise of a limited Federal government. And whether or not Mr. Coburn enjoys her company - doesn't detract from the fact that Ms. Pelosi, and her ilk, have led the charge to destroy our nation from within (unless Mr. Coburn is happy with the idea of the United States turning into a remake of the Soviet Union ... perhaps he is - the officials in the government will continue to live high off the hog).
The fact that Mr. Coburn seeks to stifle criticism of Ms. Pelosi - just reeks of the impression of a privileged class circling the wagons. Republican/Demonrat - once they get to Washington DC and start drinking the Kool-Aid, perhaps it doesn't matter. They all become the same - advocating bigger government and power for themselves - and less freedom and sovereignty to the people.
Dude, his voting record says he isn't a RINO, and frankly, that's all I care about.
What, you've never been polite and said something nice about your mother in law?
Of course, half the people here on FR have never been polite, so maybe I shouldn't be asking that question.
RE :”Pelosi is a limousine Marxist,a sociopath and a psychopath.”
That answers that question. Do you like when she laughs? Something unique to it, not quite right.
Do you go out of your way to antagonize people who agree with you?
“There is some one here on FR who said he knew her and said that although he disagreed with her politcs, she was a nice person.”
Nice people don’t make it a habit to lie. Nor do they make it a habit to slander good people, like the Tea Party Patriots.
I reject the notion that Pelosi is “nice”. She may be engaging, but nice is out, at least as I understand the definition. And I also submit that Coburn, in spite of saying the right things at times, is revealing his true character... that of a politician.
“I dont need to meet her! What Ive heard her say on tv is enough to know she is NOT a nice person.”
Thank you for speaking my mind! :)
Nancy Pelosi is destroying the country, damaging me and my family and strangling the future for my children and grandchildren and she's a NICE person? She calls patriotic American citizens 'astroturf' and 'nazis' and she's a NICE person?
Coburn, I don't think 'nice' means what you think it means.
BUMP!
Obviously that's the the intention, Tom. The intention is to force us to buy gov't-approvated health insurance. That's what they want. But make no mistake -- if one decides not to do what the gov't says, one will go to jail. So the woman who said "they can put us in prison" for not obtaining health insurance under the health care reform bill is not misinformed in the least; she's exactly right.
So Coburn, either YOU are misinformed or you now support Obamacare. Well, which is it?
Stupid is never classy.
Coburn obeyed the Contract with America and did not seek re-election to the House. It was very close on if he would seek re-election to the Senate. His next term, provided he wins, will almost certainly be his last.
It seems like he was making a call for civility in political discourse, I’m glad to see so many taking his advice. :/
I guess the next time someone on here asks what state has the two best senators, Oklahoma won’t be winning.
Nice choice of passages.
Praising those doing the devil’s work is never a good idea.
Of course, half the people here on FR have never been polite,

In a one-on-one disagreement with someone, you are entirely right. But attempting to persuade Nancy Pelosi to do the right thing is a waste of time, to say the least. There is no benefit to being friendly towards people like this. All it does is suck the wind out of people trying desperately to prevent this country from heading into disaster.
There is a time to be conciliatory, and this isn’t it. They are bent on systematically destroying this country, if not by intent, than at least by effect. This is a time for Republicans to stand firm, and pull no punches.
