Is 'gun safety' prescibed by Kaiser Permanente based on science or politics?
Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 6 April, 2010 | David Codrea

I received the following from a colleague, who, due to the personal nature of medical information, wishes to remain anonymous:

My wife came home from her OBGYN tonight and showed me a health form they provided her for her visit. I've attached the form and blocked out her personal information. If you look at the last line of the "personal care instructions" you'll see that they recommend she keep all guns unloaded and locked in a cabinet. This struck me as odd because I can't figure out what this has to do with OBGYN health?

They offer other suggestions like wearing a seat belt and using appropriate sunblock but how did they select such comments? Surely there are other things more dangerous to womens' health, right? They don't mention the use of condoms or abstinence to prevent sexually transmitted diseases. What about drinking and driving or smoking cigarettes? How about drinking alcohol during a pregnancy? We are talking about the OBGYN aren't we?

As an NRA life member I am bothered that this form contains such language and with the new Health Care Bill rammed down our throat I fear will we see a gun grab attempt under the guise of "health care". I don't have a problem in promoting safe storage practices but a gun for home defense needs to be loaded and easily accessible in my opinion. Children in the home obviously add a safety dynamic but there are many ways to keep a loaded gun accessible and keep children from gaining unsupervised access as you well know. In any event, these issues have no place on a medical form.

Here's the form in question, with personal information erased and the relevant section highlighted—click on it to enlarge:

Her fetus might creep out, grab a gun, and shoot her.

With the use of "Healthcare Refrom" to kill large segments of the populace, of COURSE they want them disarmed.

They had to do that in Britain.

My daughter had a keychain that read, “I have PMS and a gun. What the hell do you want?”

What you are witnessing is the kind of crap that the government and insurance companies are expecting doctors to waste their time with during an office visit. I’m a Internal Medicine physician and am always getting notices advising me to tell patients to wear seat belts, use sunscreen, etc. It is all part of a comprehensive push for health and safety. The government requires us to do this as part of their “Welcome to Medicare” physical.

Personally, I resent the intrusion on what I feel is important and appropriate to address during an office visit. It is just one more example of how society no longer expects people to use common sense and take responsibility for themselves. Government and insurance companies want to tell us what we should and shouldn’t do. This problem will only get worse as the government takes over health care and increases its demands upon doctors.

If they are so interested in women’s general health they ought to suggest that they get married and stay married.

I would have ny wife switch doctors and call the Dr.’s office and have her records transferred, and tell them why.

A wonans health does not include rape and/or murder and can be prevented by any size bullet hole in a would be rapist. The larger the hole the better.

It really is related to gynecology. The question addresses the little known and rather astounding fact that, during the use of firearms to repel felonious assault, many women accidentally shoot themselves in the uterus.

I hate when that happens. I myself have shot myself in the uterus twice. It sucks!

I'm printing 20 copies of the form, to mail to Kaiser in separate letters, with the following note added:
“My firearm is locked and loaded, inside my waistband, where it is best situated to protect my health and welfare.”

I suspect that as government intrudes upon the sovereign rights of private sector insurance, the addition of firearms in insurance company reviews will become intrusively common place as a tool to deny coverage, or make coverage much more expensive.

I fear will we see a gun grab attempt under the guise of “health care”.

In the movie business that is know as ‘foreshadowing’ – just wait until the Nanny Statists really get going with their noses in Everyone’s business.

Just wait until the national socialist left feels they have the power and they can really let the mask fall off.

Just wait until the first ‘gun-free zone’ massacre they think they can exploit to grab people's guns in the name of National Socialist Healthcare.

Bingo!

Or, at the very least, recommend as few sexual partners as possible.

Guess which idiot company chose today to send me an Insurance Application?

Sending this comment on the bottom of the form provided in this thread.
“My firearm is locked and loaded, inside my waistband, where it is best situated to protect my health and welfare.”
