(CNSNews.com) - Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Douglas Shulman said at the National Press Club on Monday that the IRS cannot say how many new agents it will need to enforce the new health care law signed by President Barack Obama last month.

The IRS will play a key role in the new national health care system created by the law because it will be responsible for monitoring whether people buy health insurance, as the law mandates, and for collecting a fine from those who fail to buy insurance.

It is not illegal

You have been paying in too much to the IRS if you are getting tax refunds each year!

It is legal to increase (adjust) the number of your deductions on a W-2 so the Treasury Department is not getting a free no-interest 12-month loan

A competent accountant will tell you that quickly

When you receive your 1040 or pick one up - you then list your dependents -

I thought it was illegal to lie about the number of dependents you have.

It is not illegal to put more dependents than you actually have on a W-2 form

It is illegal to list more than you have on your IRS 1040 form

I know taxes and economics as well as political alleged-science

I've never once done a tax return so am not familiar with which form is which. Just knew it was illegal to declare more dependents than you have for tax purposes.

I believe you’re referring to the W-4 form, not W-2.

How many dependents you list on your W-4 is for the purposes of regulating how much federal taxes you want deducted from your paycheck - this is legal.

However, you are to list the ACTUAL number of dependents on your Form 1040 when you file your tax return.

Ask any accountant...they will tell you how this works and how it is legal to do so.

Thank you Tucker. devolve knew what he was talking about even though he might have put a 2 instead of a 4.

I’ve never filled one out myself.

That was so long ago that I believe someone on my large staff typed W-2 in error

I now have reviewed those comments and revise and extend that post as follows:

W-4

No problemo.

I do the accounting for my company. Zero dependents listed on your W-4 will generate the max of income taxes being taken out of your paycheck, whereas 9 dependents (which is the legal maximum of dependents you can list)will generate no taxes being taken out. You can use numbers between 0 and 9 to determine what your tax liability would be.

As a personal reference, I only actually have 2 dependents, but list 4 on my W-4 so that I come out even. I don’t owe any taxes and the feds don’t owe me a refund either. That way the feds don’t get my money to use...interest free.

I hope that makes sense.

You Betcha!

The Feds set up their systems so that the uniformed will give them tons of cash each week

Many taxpayers even are so lousy at filling out their 1040 or other accompanying pages - that they do not take proper deductions

Years ago I was shocked at how many did not income-average on their returns - and how many things they were unaware of

The Jerk: “The new tax refunds are here!” (paraphrased)

They thought of it as a Christmas Club or a gift from Uncle Sam!

Sense is what it is all about -

(as a child - after being a teenage cowboy - I was a bank examiner until quickly I discovered I hated to count cash, bonds, stock powers, and check for irregularities on other’s huge trust accounts)

Oh, they as yet have NO idea what they are unleashing here, with this new scenario of a whole NEW population of IRS agents being unleashed against us and acting as ObamaCare goon-enforcers. THey have NO idea. Once they get the slightest glimmer of just how close this will bring them to the tipping point, they are bound to alter this arrangement just in order to quell an increasingly restive public mood.
And just where does the population of people already on Medicare or Medicaid, or those ready for it in the next year or two, where do they fit into this equation?

IRONICALLY because of his tax history the guy in charge of the Treasury Department could not get one of these jobs.

I have never understood people who for example are single and declare 0 to get a big refund in April.

I’d especially not do it now when you never know if refunds are going to be unaffordable one year like in some states now.

Also one of the ways illegals get away with paying no taxes is they submit fake paperwork and declaire 9 exemptions. They use a fake SSN or steal one.

[Oh, this was a jobs bill—]

Took us awhile to grasp what he REALLY meant when he spoke of ‘creating jobs’, didn’t it?

I’m not a big Newt fan, but he was bang on the other day on Hannity the other day, when he recommended that the Republicans promise not to fund the IRS agents, as a major part of the mid-term election platform. Nobody likes the IRS and they will easily understand and support this promise.
